• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I got one of these little units for 30 bucks off a friend and its a great little radio. Great for scanning. The only downside is its limited recieve. I wanted to recieve the uhf t band on this radio and after researching and trying numerous amounts of modifications to the setup.ini file I keep getting and "access denied" error. Any help? Thank you!

Why don't you read the RTFP and understand what I was saying. I wanted out of band receive, I know the band split already.

Danny im not sure if this mod will work. It on my uv3r+ and I see your asking about the mk2. Try it
Mike Xeno: Baofeng UV-3R PLUS*

Download the app from the link off my blog and copy and paste this into the setup.ini after you install the software. If this works you will be able to go from 400-529mhz

[setup]
com=3
searchcom=1
name=1
language=english

[ModelInfo]

Freq0=[115-400/400-529]
data0=5011993900409952

Freq1=[144-146/430-440]
data1=4014601400430044

Freq2=[136-174/400-470]
data2=6013401700400047

Mike after I enter all of this in and click "save" I get an "access denied" error. Do you know why that is? Do you enter everything manually? I just edited the some characters but do I need to rewrite the whole setup.ini file?

I'm not positive but I think your Baofeng has to have the newer firmware. I read where you can press the 3 key and turn it on while holding that key down and it should show the firmware number on the display.. I think it's the 3 key but you may want to look that up about the firmware. You should be able to edit the .ini file and put in the frequency limit such as 520. I know the Baofeng uv 5r will go up that far.
