IDOT D1 has been given a batch of 30 (or so) new STARCOM21 talkgroups in the 338xx range. Techs are reprogramming mobiles with these new TGs and testing them yard by yard, starting in southern D1. A reliable source says that each yard (including sign shops and ETP) and will have their own talkgroup. ETP's use of TG 1411 might be temporary until they get their 338xx TG. Eventually, D1 will switch over to the new SC21 TGs and the current P25 453 MHz repeaters will serve as backups.

I have been running Pro96Com on SC21 Site 102 for over a week now, and have noticed some D1 units that have been testing these new 338xx TGs have also affiliated with TGs 1420, 1421 and 1423. These are just above what was previously known as the highest IDOT TG in this range (1419, D3 Ashkum Yard). Unknown how these new 142x D1 TGs are being used. Data? Voice?

Hearing some of the new Talkgroups this morning on Site 102.

Hearing some of the new Talkgroups this morning on Site 102.

Talkgroup 1420 (Operations) per listing, is now being used for the Minutemen. They were using Talkgroup 1411 this morning, and then 1420 became active. I believe this is still a "patch" as the UHF is still active and the Talkgroups are in the 365xxx/ 367xxx range. 9-5-1 (365951) apparently does not have the radio "upgraded" and was still using Detail A Talkgroup (1411).

The Bishop Ford / I 57 Yard Talkgroup (33803) was active with Radio ID's 360776, and IDOT Control 369007.
Also heard the Joliet / New Lennox / Monee Yard Channel (33815) was active with Radio ID's 360655, but they were discussing a Dan Ryan incident. I'm not sure if this is permanent or the Talkgroup ID is not properly labeled. Further listening is required.

Today appears to be the beginning of the switch over. I'm hearing many different talk groups/Yards becoming active and vehicles doing radio checks. "I found you" is the common response..lol. The dispatcher walked one of the supervisors through on how to find him on the mobile radio via the portable. "Turn to talk group ETP-Dispatch". I see the Database has been updated...alot within the last 24 hours. Thank you to whomever this is...

Yes. Those were great updates. I too thank whoever posts them. I heard Woodstock Yard and others using the Kane Country Starcom21 and DuPage over the last few days. Glad I have IDOT and ITHA in a separate scanlist all by themselves. It gets really busy out there. Especially with people hitting all the orange barrels later at night. Just listening to these guys tells you a lot when your Police have been encrypted. Between them and Shadow Traffic I feel more informed.

Seeing more new activity today with various radio tests. Harvey Yard Mobile-to-Mobile was very active today, but portables 367304, 367305 being used. (Per the Starcom Wiki) these are assigned to portables at the Harvey Yard. 360803 (Foreman I believe) was also chatting.

Heard the Stevenson Yard check in with a radio check from 360692, 360693. The IDOT consoles apparently can talk on any channel so far I've noticed.

ETP-Minutemen Dispatch appear to have made the permanent switch over to their talk group. I'm keeping a close watch on Radio ID's, but as per the Wiki, all seem to be following the pattern so far. 360xxx, 361xxx, 365xxx, 367xxx...

It would appear the District 1 switch over to the Starcom system is complete. Heard check in's and activity from the Chicago based yards yesterday and today...Edens, Kennedy, Dan Ryan, Stevenson, Bishop Ford / I 57, and the the Administration Dispatch Channel.

Radio ID's in the Wiki correspond with the Yard's. Thank you to the contributor to the Database and Starcom Wiki, great work!

Today at 1:54 on T131 (LaSalle) I logged TGs 33875 and 33876 with IDoT Station 1 (RID 649990) keying up or calling someone. I didn't hear the transmission but this falls just past the range of the new IDoT D1 talkgroups

Did you happen to log the RIDs for the units that Station 1 was working? Nice catch, these TGs not logged by PRO96Com on Site 101 (DuPage County).

Was just a single keyup (or single transmission) on each of those talkgroups

OK, thanks. I've added them to the list of unknown SC21TGs IL-STARCOM21-Talkgroups - The RadioReference Wiki for the time being. A reasonable guess is that these are IDOT TGs, but until we get more clues like RIDs, unit numbers, locations, etc., we won't know just how they're being used. Also, it probably isn't too much of a leap to expect that TGs 33857-33874 (the gap between the highest previously-documented IDOT D1 TG and these TGs, as well as possibly some TGs 33877 and above) could be designated for similar usage.

I have also logged TG 33846 with RID 360874 affiliating with it on T131 (LaSalle) a couple of times over the past few days. No voice transmissions or any other information besides the one radio ID. It's probably ducting of some kind but the RID may help narrow it down :)

*Edit* - Added it to the Wiki

Yes, I've had them on Starcom21 talkgroups and the 453.000 mhz freqs too. Also have United Airlines DMR at Ohare and the Ohare Operations site on 477-478.000mhz going. Lots of snow-fun... AND the BEARS won too.

I agree! My question was answered...what channel(s) will the plow and salt trucks use? Their are using their individual "yard channels" which makes sense. I did hear this morning they told one of the drivers on one of the yard "dispatch channels" to switch to "mobile-to-mobile", but never heard that conversation and wasn't in front of scanner to see who that was. Other than that, these talkgroups were spot on and the Radio ID's are corresponding to assigned yards.

I believe that's a patch on the 453 Mhz. frequencies as IDOT District-1 is now on Starcom. I've heard a few references to some vehicles that don't have the radio upgraded so they're using the Yard portables.

All my talkgroups have a volume offset of +2 or +3 to help with the "low talkers". Then a "loud talker" blows the speaker off the desk which are few. I've seen the IDOT Dispatch consoles talk on all the Yard Channels. The radio room must be quite busy these days..

Minutemen are still being patched to 453, but that was all I heard in the NW suburbs throughout Sunday. Unitrunker showed unit IDs on the talkgroup, so it would appear it's being patched from SC21 to 453.

Unitrunker also showed that once the snow started falling, they patched many yard talkgroups together, similar to how traffic used to be on the 453 and VHF repeaters (north/central/south, etc.).

Predicting a repeat performance tomorrow evening through Sunday night. Get your snow listening channels ready. Chicago DOT (Snowplows), IDOT , State Police, Airlines will be busy if you have DMR capabilities..to name a few

Well the weather outside is frightful but the IDOT listing is sure delightful LOL. I can hear the Arlington Heights yard, the Edens yard, and Kennedy yard TG's from where I live. Anyone know the TG for the Northbrook Yard?
