Maintenance Talkgroups

I've been noticing the Talk groups for Maintenance have not been coinciding with the Highways. I've been seeing the 680's and 690's Trucks which are Stevenson Maintenance Trucks on the Naperville/Oak Brook Yard dispatch and a few others which aren't coinciding with the expressways.

Can the submitter update the info in the Database please?

I've heard most of them on the Yard Channel I mentioned. Since I wasn't the original contributor, I don't want to start making changes unless we know that the Channels/Talk groups are incorrect, but for some reason they are told to use certain channels etc. This is why I'm reaching out to the original contributor of the submission to double check the information provided.

IDOT D1 Talkgroup Patching

Earlier this week, there was a wintery weather mix overnight and the folks from IDOT D1 were quite busy. I went to listen for traffic on my local yard's normal talkgroup but heard nothing. Taking a look at Pro96Com (which I had running on STARCOM21), I saw that the IDOT D1 maintenance yard TGs were being patched to one of three TGs - 33824 (North), 33813 (Central) and 33805 (South). Then, after midnight or so, they changed the setup again and these ops were only on one (33811) or possibly two different TGs (the three previous patch TGs had gone silent). A reliable source tells me that this has to do with overnight staffing levels in the comm center. At this point, I don't know if the exact TGs they patch to remains the same for each of these scenarios or not. I imagine that this process is transparent to the radio users (i.e. they continue to talk / listen like they normally would).

Bottom line - if you're looking to hear your local IDOT D1 yard operations and hear nothing on their normal TG, be prepared to do a little searching to determine which TG they've been patched to (or "cheat" using Pro96Com). Even when you find them, you might have to search again if the patching setup changes.

I have the "non-tagged" Talk groups/Channels set up as well. I suspected this might be the case and hearing Dist. 2 ISP units using District-Chicago talk groups/ channels too. It's possible the channels/talk groups are labeled properly, but might not be following along.

Current IDOT D1 TG Patching

I have Pro96Com set up on SC21 Site 101. At the current time, the software's "Patches" tab shows that ten different IDOT D1 yard TGs are all being patched to TG 33803. If I were to run this software on the Lake County, North Cook or Will County sites I'd no doubt see more patches.

It's almost 10am on a weekday and we're not currently in the middle of a storm (or any precipitation at all, for that matter), but yet they're patching talkgroups. Again, a reliable source tells me that this all depends on staffing levels at the D1 comm center.

I'm monitoring Site 102, Talk group 33803 is labeled as Bishop Ford & I 57 Yard Dispatch.

Correct - but at least ten other TGs were patched to it earlier. Pro96Com shows that those patches have been removed, but at least five "south" TGs are now patched to 33811 (Harvey Yard) and at least four "central" TGs are now patched to 33824 (Woodstock Yard).

Looks to be a fairly fluid (and confusing) situation.

Yes it is. You confirmed what I was thinking...patched Talk groups/Channels. As you said, keep the Yard Talk groups/Channels all up and running, you never know where conversations will pop up.

Well not to high-jack this thread butwhen your down south here and you monitor D-5 ISP you need to check TG9013-A then 9014-B to find them, then on the same TG's you hear her call D-2 cars but to get a reply you must monitor TG9002-A or 9003-B of D2....Its come down to make a System in your scanner and use "Pri" to keep up....I also monitor T125-Grundy and a lot of D-5 traffic on Chicago area towers does not come over the Grundy tower and vise-versa....Out TG for IDOT here is 33815 but there are more patched thru it from other areas also.....

What you'll hear on at least the Uniden scanners is the last talkgroup in the "patch". For example, an ISPERN was just broadcast with 17 ISPERN and 01 ISPERN both patched to 07 ISPERN - the scanner picked up the traffic on 07 ISPERN
