For your info, there was a digital card firmware update to eliminate a frequent CARD ERROR problem in the BC296D and BC796D. Yes, the digital card has its own firmware.

Not too much of a surprise. Both of those were very good early digital scanners. I had both as well as a 780, 785, 796.
