    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Information about interfacing MIII with GETC

Hello all,

I am trying to find any information i can about getting a GETC EDACS SCAT shelf to work with a MIII station.

I have scoured the internet for every LBI i can find, but none of them address the actual programming of the MIII unit to talk to the GETC. I have the GETC programmed (I think) correctly, using WinGETC. If i tap a point on the board for TX HSD generation, i get a proper decode in Unitrunker and the site ID changes with re-programming so this leads me to believe it is correctly set up.

The GETC shelf is not keying the MIII station at all, the two don't seem to do anything at all. I have verified the cabling is correct (it is a stock M/A Com harness between the two). All the appropriate signal pins are cabled and going to the right places. Nothing I do will get the GETC to TX on the air.

The extreme lack of documentation on the actual config of the MIII is my biggest issue I think. I have gone thru and set my freq and such to be correct, but under the Function Lists - GETC IN, none of the value there have actions.

Any help at all would be great, other than links to the usual sources for LBI docs :) I have a full archive of those and A. they are all very dated and dont refer to the versions of software im using and B. Don't cover the topics I need. If you have any experience with this I would love to chat about it!

Just read your post again and you may already have what I PM'ed you. With that said, I do know that SCAT configurations requires SCAT specific firmware in the GETC.

Thank you all for the private messages and E-mails! I have not been able to get the MIII to key up yet but I have made a bit of progress figuring out what IS working. I have ordered an HSD and LSD filter, since my GETC started life as a CNI model and not an EDACS control shelf.

I have also determined that the EPROM in it is new enough (R11A I think it was) that it supports both EDACS and EDACS SCAT, so I don't have to track down the near-impossible-to-find chip. Like I said, still have some hurdles to get over but its getting closer.

Now if I could only set up a site controller, IMC and System Manager I'd be set haha

What band are you working on & what is your use? I have a Complete MII 800MHz EDACS repeater with about 6 spare GETC shelves, EDACS & VG proms and various new harnesses, boards, components, etc we have leftover form converting our GE-Marc trunking Repeaters to EDACS. I believe I still have a couple GE-Marc repeaters in the warehouse too. This is 90's vintage MII that used the Xtal rcvr and PLL exciter. I understand this version can be converted to V or UHF with a little tinkering.

Anyone looking for a weekend project?
