Only dropouts I had with my 396 were along I-96 through Eaton Co. Anyone know a good, non-obtrusive, SMA antenna tuned for 400MHz?

The only place that i know of where you can get excellant quality antennas is www.antenex.com. They have HT type antennas for just about every frequency imaginable.

Thanks for your response to my earlier problem. I put the bank back on narrow and am hearing some chatter. Although audio is quite low on most everything I hear.

After reprogramming EDACS wide, I'm picking up 04-121 as well. Guess I'll program in some talkgroups. Thanks for all the info. The RS 800MHz antenna I have on my Pro95 (but I'm travelling with the BC246T) does a great job in the 400+MHz range.

I guess I didn't realize how picky I had to be in how the LCN numbers were programmed. On my 796D, I had the numbers programmed into the scanner as listed below...

02 - 453.0500
03 - 453.2375
04 - 453.4750
05 - 453.8500
06 - 460.5000

I skipped channel number 01 because it is marked as priority and based on experience, the frequency in the priority spot gets priority status while scanning. I figured it was the same way here, but I was wrong. The other thing I realized was that the LCN numbers are very important, literally. Normally I would program the 460.500 in the next spot after 453.850. Well I found out it is very important to program 460.500 in the exact channel location, 09.

So, the correct way to program this system is as follows...

01 - 453.0500
02 - 453.2375
03 - 453.4750
04 - 453.8500
09 - 460.5000

This is probably trivial to some of you reading this, but I figured someone out there could be having the same problem as I had.

I spoke with a friend earlier this evening who is a Meridian Police Officer. He said that they have had some issues with the new system since they switched, and that they believe the Dobie road tower may have been struck by lightning a few nights ago.I have been monitering the new system on a Radioshack pro-2052 all day,and have been hearing Meridian PD.almost perfect. It sounds great so far.I live in the far southeast corner of the county, and I could never recieve Meridian PD.from any of my scanners in the house on the old system, now I can hear them inside my house on hand helds,as well as base(desktop)

From the West Side on a weak BC246T, after programming to EDACS Wide, I've locked into 02-021 (Lansing N Dispatch), 02-062 (Meridian LEIN), 02-101 (Meridian Dispatch) in a few minutes last night. Still a 4:1 ratio of Conventional: EDACS comms. I may bring a better radio next week and check it out.

"Still a 4:1 ratio of Conventional: EDACS comms."

I'm not sure what that means?

As I am getting ready for the new radio system I decided I would put in the frequencies in two different banks. That way I could have the fire in one and police in another. Sounded good but on the second bank all I get is static. I copied the frequencies from the first bank and then made sure it was EDACS wide just like the other one.

Any suggestions?

What scanner? Did you use software? You get static where?

That's the ratio of traffic when I'm scanning both the current and conventional in separate systems/banks. I was expecting a closer to 50-50 distribution, but now I see I need to fix the LCNs.

Heard a great conversation around water getting into the T-1 for E Lansing Dispatch and causing problems. Apparently Mobile-to-Mobile Communications are good right now; but there are kinks causing a few pain points. hope they get it going soon.

All in all, sounds real good.

You should add all 9 LCN's now even though not all of them are in use.

I am using a BC295d the first bank I put in works fine. Just wanted to have the police on one bank and fire on another. Is there some reason you can't have two EDACS systems on the scanner?

Thanks for any help.

Nope, that'll work just fine. I'm doing it with my 396, 230 and 15 with no problem.

Finally remembered what I did before on the fire bank. ARC250 does not set up the EDACS correctly. So after doing it manually it worked.

Thanks

My ARC250 software worked fine for my 296D, set up the LCN's in the proper order, set it as EDACS Wide, 12.5 Khz step and it works fine.

It was made by Uniden so should work. You need to describe the problems if you want tips ;>

re: question

Well I have the owners manual to the scanner and I am putting the frequencys in their own bank as the owners manual says... I have the 10 simulcast frequencys in their own bank not mixed with anything else, in the exact order that they appear on the database...Now once I have them programed acording to the owners manual I have to hit the trunk button and select EDACS, which I have figured out how to do but after that I cant figure it out from there. I also am confused on how to enter the AFS or DEC codes the owners manual is not very clear about that. I am sorry I probably sound realy iggnorant but I am not up to par on these new systems...

The Wiki Section at this site is excellent for a lot of these type of questions. You'll want to program in talkgroups so that the display will read "FIRE TAC2" rather than "ID:0579." Then you can 'hold' a talkgroup (like last night's structure fire) and follow the conversation.

Visit the Wiki: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Programming_Shortcut_Pro-2052

Also visit the EDACS Trunking Forum and Wiki for more details. Also, think about using a PC to program; so look at the s/w forum and this site's links for demo/free programs.

Gadgetman when I try using to arc 250 software under Trunk then settings I set it for EDACS wide but it did not work correctly. Could you please let me know how you made it work. I have it running now by going to the radio and setting it but it would be nice for future reference.

Thanks

Sure

Trunk settings:
EDACS Wide
I have Icall on, ID format AFS and activity ID and Emergency ALT both checked

Other settings
trunk on
delay time 2
beep alert off
pl/dpl none
lock out off
att off
mode fm
step 12.5

I assume you have the 9 freqs enter correctly in LCN logical channel number?
