Well I may have a very interesting summer (not that they aren't interesting enough!) I just ordered the NooElec TV28T from Ont. Now to get the software and learn ANOTHER aspect of the hobby...

On Mode-S the other day I saw one which I've seen a few times previously and thought was a bug.

ICAO24 43C22D, ZB677 (registration), callsign "AAC 2". Type GAZL. This is a Gazelle helicopter from the British Army Air Corps... must have come out to Calgary from Suffield for a visit.

And I didn't see these on Mode-S, but two Air Tractor AT-802s worked a grass fire with us on the Tsuu T'ina First Nation yesterday.

Re:

Just caught this on Planeplotter off the west coast of Nova Scotia. Looks like he's headed to Labrador or Greenland.

Reg: 95-0104
ICAO: AE07E7
Heading: 10 degrees
Route: OMAM-EGUN

Since establishing my ADSB station a couple of weeks ago, I've noticed a couple of military aircraft popping up - Oiler24, a C130, and Husky04, an A310. No positional data from either, although altitudes were being reported. The C130 was at FL140, the A310 at FL280.

Hopefully some more people in Edmonton / Sherwood Park will set up RAW feeds so we can MLAT these aircraft.

I'm in Saskatoon and have my PP on sharing 24/7 as I also use the same computer for LiveATC feed for CYXE. (And I'm tweeting WX Watcher feeds from EC.)

How do I supply a raw data feed if that would be helpful?

Since I've had my PP on I've noticed that our VOR beacon YXE is being used a lot by international carriers. Because I've been paying attention, I've noticed a lot of flights from the US to Narita International in Japan. I just looked up ANA11 flying overhead and that is where he is going.

There is also a lot of traffic that I noticed years a go from Europe to KLAX or KSFO. I think I need to invest in a BIG lens.

You would need GS/MU status. Read through the page at planeplotter / MLAT Introduction for more info, although I expect you are too far from me for MLAT to work. But if there were other sharers in your region you might begin to see other stuff showing up.

Yes - you'll see a lot of overflights from Europe and to Japan, China, Korea, & Alaska.

When I zoom out I can see a ton of AC all over the map. Is there a way to change your share name? Currently I'm nZ and I see others that have different codes. I'd like to use my call sign if possible.

Oh, and I also forgot to mention I seen the other day my first restricted AC from the database of Flightaware. I'm glad that's possible.

What do you mean by "restricted AC"?

Also, your share name is not changeable. It's generated automatically by the service once you start sharing.

Ones like John Travolta's jets when you look up the tail on Flight Aware (or other tracking site) you get this:

This aircraft (N492JT) is not available for public tracking per request from the owner/operator.

So the other day there way a hit on PP and I looked it up to see who it was and that was the message I received.

You can create an alert in PP for any registration number/hex code/flight number you choose.

I noticed that but i don't know how to do the script so it will email me, do you have any idea?

Uh, no :)

You can join the Yahoo Group for Planeplotter and someone over there may be able to help you.

This is the only forum I belong to for anything radio related. I used to belong to LOTS of groups but I don't have the time. So.... I'll do some research and figure it out.

Thanks for the tip.

Heard what sounded like a low flying military jet earlier, so I ran over to the window. Didn't see anything :-(
Had a look at what the RTL dongle was seeing, and although not showing any military jets, I noticed OILR56. Upon further investigation I noticed it was a CAF C130H.

Thought that was neat - although it wasn't showing a position, it was showing at 9800ft somewhere in my receive radius. Then about 5 minutes later I hear the sound of a loud turboprop. Run to the window again, and there she is, OILR56 on approach to YEG on centerline of Rwy 20 :)

I almost thought it was an amusing coincidence that you picked up that callsign in Edmonton, but OILER according to this list for Canforce is from 17 Wing CFB Winnipeg.
