Picked up a few words in Spanish., and they went off the air. Must have been Voice of Turkey.

Most of you younger ones were not around in the 1960's and 1970's when Radio Moscow had lots of high power broadcasts in that band--completeing in agreement with ITU rules.

I started listening in the late 80's - Radio Moscow seemed to be everywhere. I remember the 41m and 49m bands being packed in the evening.

I am an old Broadcast DXer, but newer ham. First time I have heard shortwave broadcast on the band after I have talked to others between 7200 and 7300. I looked back at my Bdcst DX Log and sure enough I have logged a couple broadcasters there.

There used to be a lot more of them at night. I remember in the early 80's hearing Western US hams talk on top of some of the broadcasters. One guy said the trick is to zero out the broadcaster so you don't get the whine from the carrier signal.

It was like that here on the East Coast, with hams on top of the European broadcasters (late 80's - 90's)

Also, the 75 meter broadcast band (3900 - 4000kHz) overlaps the 80 meter amateur band. There seemed to be far fewer broadcasters in this segment.

This is nothing new. I get to wake up to the Chinese gong show nearly every morning. Those bells and gongs are better than coffee!

Talk about jamming on 40 meters. I used to listen in on 40 to several talk groups, mainly 7.255 and 7.260 and the daily swap at 7.235. But in the past two years a bunch of very childish hams started jamming with prerecorded on playing messages over the tops of these qso's, making political statements and other nonesense. It's a shame to see this happen. I remember in the days when this was common in the CB bands. I just wished the FCC would crack down on these idiots and get them off the air.

I was regularly monitoring the NATA and Ole Miss nets on 7184/7185 and there was also jamming/music playing as well as someone tuning-up over the net. It's really nothing new. 7200 has been a cesspool for years. Ditto for 14313.

It's really a shame, as the Ole Miss and NATA people are great bunch of guys and gals.

The FCC has left the policing of the bands to the amateur community

I’m a regular on 7.255 and know exactly what you’re talking about. It reminds me of the phrase, ‘this is why we can’t have nice things.’ Because there’s always some mental midget that will screw it up for everyone.

I’m sure the shrinks have a name for what ails these people. It’s probably in the DSM5.
