• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, everyone!

I had purchased a Motorola Quantar VHF R2 with a IntelliRepeater board. When I power the Quantar up and it is running, my portable/mobile radios says that the repeater is in Site Trunking. I know what Site Trunking means, but I would like to find out how to get out of it with the other devices or resources I need.

The Quantar is currently being set up as an amateur repeater with Motorola Type II VOC. I would like to get it fully operational and have the first amateur trunking system in the state of South Dakota.

Thanks and 73!

If that command came from the core you may be screwed. Years ago we took a bunch of Quantars out of service , we did a "site off" first and couldn't reuse them until they received a "wide-area" command. So we had to add them to an active site and send the command. This was a 4.1Z system.

Do you know the p/n of the controller board? CLN6960 or some such?
i *think* you can configure it to not site trunk via the RSS, but it's been
years since we replaced the quantars with GTR's

If the controller board is an Epic IV CLN7692 or DLN1229 or maybe another # it can be trunking only and not suitable for a typical amateur setup. Otherwise you should be able to reconfigure RSS for a conventional repeater or worst case create a new personality in RSS then download.

It originally had a conventional/6809 SmartZone board in it when I won it on eBay. I decided to get the CLN6960 IR board because it was the cheapest and easiest to find on eBay. I decided to do trunking because it would be fun and something new to try.

I still have the conventional board just in case I wanted to go back to conventional if trunking became unsuccessful.

I get it that some have a fetish for trunking, but without multiple subscribers and talk groups, such a system would never actually trunk. In my town of 5 million and thousands of supposedly active hams, only 2 or 3 repeaters see any daily use. Just saying, a lot of effort and futility for not much gain.

HamTrunk isn't P25, it's Motorola Type II Analog, or in EFJ world, its Viking16 trunking.

Even if you can find another Quantar to do P25 trunking, your next hurdle will be setting up a "core" to run it. Even if you can manage all that, getting legit keys made to program all the radios will be a huge task.

If you go multi channel, how are you going to address the ID requirements of Part 97? A trunking system only IDs on one channel (lowest frequency if i remember correctly)

I suppose a single channel VOC system could address that, but then you are broadcasting a control channel

The OP is working to setup a VOC intellirepeater using Type II trunking according to his post. I suppose he could use CAI but it would not technically be a P25 trunked system.
