Sometimes when all other courses of action to make necessary changes fail, you have to make some shots below the belt. Having worked for various levels of government, I know this from experience. I won't suggest that published media effects the responses of political powers, I PROMISE you that it does!
As far as putting too much information out there, well, I've said it before and I'll say it again. The people who aim to attack and terrorize our Country don't need our help with ideas. Unfortunately, they are intelligent, resourceful, enterprising people. They will come up with their plans of terror regardless of what is disclosed in the media. The information in this article is actually ALOT less revealing than some of the information that can be found within the contents of RR.
And it is the American way to have a free and open society. If there is a serious problem at some level of government, whether it be a federal police radio system, a weakness in a building's security system, poor training, or WHATEVER, the best way to keep it quiet is to FIX IT. If the powers that be don't take problems seriously, they should expect that it will be exposed and become embarrassing.
Kudos to the author of this article for taking the safety of the public, the employees of the National Capitol, and the officers who rely on these radios seriously enough to write an informative, accurate portrayal of the problems that exist.
