I see sometimes in my DX spotter that there are people on but when I tune in I hear nothing. Maybe it's my antenna. I will keep trying.

I would believe it. I talked to Ohio on 6 meters on 1 watt SSB from my couch on an FT817 with a crappy telescopic whip.

MT1000 and Syntor X9000

In reference to the MT1000 I have a pristine condition 99CH version and while have not transmitted DX, I can sit a receive the KQ2H machine from NC when band is open. I have heard CA machines back when band was good. I have a Syntor X9000 programmed for both 6 and 10 meters. One morning this past summer I worked a Japan station while mobile from NC. I was using a Motorola spectrum coil with a 54" whip (tuned perfectly). I still have video of it. That is my best FM contact ever.

Find a good commercial rig: kenwood TK-6110, TK-630H-1 and Motorola Syntor X9000, maratrac, maxtrac and a few more.

Wow you guys are good. I see one in the spotter, tune to it and don't hear Jack.... On a lighter note I did hear the guy from the Cook Islands(forgot what band sorry) but he is just above the noise and getting pounded on by the big boys so....I STILL love amateur radio though. This DX thing for me brings it to a entire new level! I'm like a kid in a candy store with this stuff.

I have a ham friend here in my home town he made a 10 meter contact to a special event station on a island in the south pacific over the week end........
why don't u make some contacts instead of letting this "friend" do all the work.

i always have one of my HF radios parked on 28.400. you never know what you will hear. if i hear something, i make the contact. i don't wait for a "friend" to do it then report his contacts. LOL

I have to just park on one of these frequencies. I worked a guy tonight from Honduras of 17,heard a swarm of wasps on 15,but when I tune to any frequency on 10 I hear nothing. I did take notice the the people who were doing the spotting were across the country. I will keep trying.

I'm going to the beach with my portable rig tomorrow morning. Looking at the propagation predictors there might be some openings on 10 once the sun comes up. I might just give it a shot.

Ten meters was open pretty good yesterday. I worked several South American stations (Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay) on SSB and PSK31, and I worked a new European country - Iceland. It was a good day for ten meters.

heard a similar report from a ham friend. my antennas are down bec of hurricane coming. soon as that passes, i be back on HF. dont want to be like some self proclaimed hams and just report what I "heard". want to work those stations like you have. that's what keeps this hobby alive and not dead in the water.

i also dx with my 10 meter MT1000 HT, when 10 is open FM qrp is the norm and very easy with the duck antenna.

I have ~30 states,kq2h, w5dfw and the kx4i repeaters along witho BV2DQ IN Taipae several kl7, Jl1tzq, ja3haw and zl2ok all worked more than once every season from 2012 to the end of May of this year on 29.6 FM with 6 watts and the Motorola stock 11 1/2 inch MT1000 antenna.

Just friday I worked 1 Illinois station on 29.6 with my MT1000 from my work parking lot.

The MT1000 and its cousin the P200 LOW band HT's are the best 10 and 6 meter handhelds made.

Also on 10cw/ssb E6GG, the T2 and numerous PY, LU CX and CE stations have been on 10 meter cw/ssb and since the end of August the ssb end has had numerous TEP openings this fall and late summer to PY CE AND LU SOUTH AMERICA

An hour ago LU and PY were in on ssb between 28.3-28.5 MHZ.

Mike I quests then it's safe to say that on my 2000 at minimum power I should be able to hit some of these repeaters? I think I'm maybe 13 miles from KQ2H's NYC machine.
