Long time ago.. (a few years) turning to channel 20 on the Tv I would pick up what would be a mix of a Golay, POCSAG and a 5/6 tone paging..

about 99% of the time the sounds would be in this order..

5/6 Tone paging
GOLAY tone
POCSAG which seemed to be between 512-1200 Baud

last time I checked I never heard anything else on it.

I don't know off the top of my head what frequency "channel 20" corresponds to, but here, we have a mix of POCSAG 512/1200 and GOLAY running on a 153.9x freq. The system is very near end-of-life, though; basically, as soon as a way can be found to guarantee email/SMS transport in "mission critical" type grade of service, things will switch over to that.

San Diego Fire is still using Golay pagers on 154.085, though they're hoping (somewhat desperately) to get something new, since they cannot aquire replacements for failed gear any way other than junk sales/E-bay, now.

I'd certainly like to see them shift to pocsag, since I could decode that.

The FD's in my county use a mixture of 512 baud POCSAG and GOLAY on UHF. I believe WinFLEX is the only thing that'll do GOLAY.
