When I add anything in the TXWARN system using the Sentinel Software it defaults to system type "P25 Trunk" instead of "P25 X2-TDMA" and I have not found any way to change it to the correct system type. Consequently anything associated with the TXWARN Project25 Phase II wont work. Just dead silence when I set it to scan that particular favorite. It's going through the departments and channels but it's just dead silent. Any help would be appreciated.

P25 Trunk is the correct system type for that system as it is not X2-TDMA, it is P25 Phase 2 TDMA.

I suspect the sites you are listening to don't carry the traffic you are wanting to listen to.

There is no choice in the System Type for P25 Phase 2 TDMA in my scanner. My choices are "P25 Trunk" and "P25 X2-TDMA". Let me point out that I was able to do a workaround which was very time intensive where I manually created a new Favorite List in the scanner and assigned the correct System Type "P25 X2-TDMA" and manually built my local department group for Texas City using the information in the default database and it absolutely works. My issue is I don't have enough time to manually build each one in my area and anytime I try to add one from the USA database it defaults to system type "P25 Trunk" with no option to change it in the scanner. I actually did a couple of Departments in my area using this manual workaround and each of them worked. I should not have to manually build these in order to make them work. There is definitely an issue in the database associated with this system. I have done both the firmware and database updates but the issue still continues.

Ok, it's odd though that I import that system and it works just fine with no need to change system type. And P25 trunk IS the proper type for that system.

P25 X2-TDMA is not the correct system type, P25 Trunk is.

X2-TDMA was a proprietary Motorola system type that predates the official APCO Project 25 Phase II standard.

If you're programming a Phase II system into a Uniden scanner as "X2-TDMA", then you're doing it wrong.

Again, as the other user pointed out P25 Trunk is correct.
P25 X2 TDMA was a Motorola proprietary form used a few years ago when the Phase 2 TDMA features were still being developed and it was an early adaption of Phase 2. I dont believe any systems out there still use it. P25 Trunk supports Phase 1 and Phase 2 as long as the scanner supports Phase 2 natively.

EDIT looks like @GTR8000 and i were typing at the same time. So go with what he says.

I don't want to argue with those who definitely have way more experience with these devices than I do, but when I build a favorite using the USA database and add directly to my favorite list, I get absolute silence when it scans using the default system type of P25 Trunk. The manually created favorite that I set up using the TG group for my local PD works just fine using P25 X2-TDMA.

It works because you're probably listening to FDMA talkgroups, which will come through regardless of how you program the system into your Uniden scanner.

If the append from full database isn't working, then something else is going on. Perhaps you need to delete the sites that are not in range or that are not carrying the talkgroups you want to listen to. If the scanner is locked in on a control channel that doesn't carry those talkgroups, you're not going to hear anything, thus giving the appearance that the system type is wrong in the scanner's programming.

I actually deleted all the other groups to focus directly on the one department of interest. If I do that it gives me an error that there is nothing to scan. I have repeatedly tried 20 different times creating it directly from the database and no method I try works. It's quite strange the only way that does work is when I manually create the favorite in the scanner and forced it to the system type P25 X2-TDMA. I totally created another favorite group deleted everything except the talk group I showed above and added on other P25 Trunk system that did not contain talk groups. At that point it began to scan but it did not scan the Texas City Talk group. I am totally baffled. I guess I will just continue to manually build the groups I want to listen to that are predominately talk groups that wont work through the normal method.

Can someone offer me a better or at least another software to try other than Sentinel?

What site are you trying to use?
Texas/Galveston/County Systems/Texas Wide Area Network(TxWarn)/Galveston County - Texas City and several others in that same network that are in my area.

Is that what you were asking?

Groups are not the same as Sites. What Sites are you appending to the favorite list from the full database? You can have all the right Groups, but if you don't have the right Sites, you're not going to get the results you're expecting.

If you are using site 1-17 Texas City you won't hear local law enforcement on that site. You'd probably need to use site 1-54 Galveston County Simulcast, but be advised the 436 doesn't work very well on simulcast sites.

Well I went back and totally wiped out my favorites and built a new one and added the whole TXWARN back. Then I deleted out the junk I was not interested in and now it appears to be working OK. I don't know what I did wrong but I spent a considerable amount of time yesterday and last night working through this issue. I know I did this same thing more than once last night with no success.

I appreciate all of the responses from each of you. I have no idea what I did different but one thing for sure it has caused me to learn a lot about this scanner and trunking systems in general as a result.
