Good afternoon everyone.
My Boy Scout Council is planning for JOTA/JOTI, and we are currently planning for amateur radio to be a part of the event. I am a little concerned though with how much participation there really is. I sponsored my Venture Crew for JOTA last year, and while I heard a lot of contesting stations I did not hear very many JOTA participants, and did not have success with calling CQ on the calling frequencies. My station was adequate, and was actually better than many base station setups I have had through the years.
I realize that the sun cycle should be better this year, and I also realize that my location in Austin, TX may not have been the best location. So, I ask you all, how was your JOTA experience last year? My concern is I don't want to talk up amateur radio and then have another flop of an event - it definitely does not look great to the youth.
Thanks and 73,
Rickey/AE6QE
