I got a Pro-106 and Pro-2096. I used info from RR to program. I am hearing things, but want to have better control. I might just not be seeing or making it harder than it needs to be. Here is my issue.
I am in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Berkeley County. It is SIRN P25. I hear the County Sheriff, Fire, EMS, State Police and Martinsburg City Police. However, there are times I only want to hear the BCSO, not Fire/EMS. All these are coming in on a CONV freq. So I get a mix of everything. I have the Control Channels for each area, but not the voice freqs, programmed in as well as all of the TGRP ID's. Can someone tell me what I am missing when it comes to being able to setup Bank 1 - BCSO, Bank 2 - WV State, Bank 3 - BC Fire, etc. If I L/O the CONV 453.9750 I get nothing. I have Win500 Paid Software and correct Program Cable for the Pro-106. If there is anything else I need to provide, just ask. Thanks in advance for your help.

Some good info at these 2 links:

I'm not sure I fully understand your question(s), but I'll try to help. First, win500 does not support the Pro-2096. That takes win-96. win500 will program the Pro-106. The frequency 453.975 is a voice channel, not a control channel according to the RR database. The control channel for your county is listed as 460.1625. The alternate control channel is listed as 460.2375. Those are the only channels you need to enter since this is a Motorola system. The system type I am not sure of, but there are only three to try; Motorola 800/900, P25 Manual, or P25 Auto. Then enter your talk groups. Then you have to assign the talk groups to a scan list. (bank if you prefer, but in the 106 they are referred to as scan lists) If you do not receive anything, try a different system type of the three I listed. On of them should work, and you will then have the control you want as to what you hear. Hope this helps.

With everything I posted so far, as reference, here is my issue.

When I try to scan, I get many different transmission coming in on 1 CONV object Freq.
453.975000 seems to be a digital Freq (can get anything but noise on non digital scanner).

Every phone app or 'Online" broadcast seems to be exactly the same. A mix of stations.

If I am trying to follow a fire call, then I also get to hear Animal Control and Police/Fire/EMS from 2 counties regardless of scan list selected. If I L/O 453.975000, I don't get anything from anywhere.

I just keep overlooking something to hear what I want to hear. If I am following a police call, then I don't want everything else coming in.

I am getting frustrated with this. I am not a stupid newbie. I have been dealing with CB's & Scanners since the 70's, when they were easy and had crystals. :) Thanks for your continued help and if I have left something out, please ask for details.

You should not be programming any of the SIRN frequencies as a CONV object. If you have any programmed a such, you should remove them. You should also ensure that all your TGRP are properly assigned to a Scan List in order to hear them. They might not be assigned by default if you import from the RadioReference Database.

Things have long since moved past the simple days of single frequency radio systems and into the age of trunking, which means that a many thousands of "channels" (now called talkgroups) can share a few frequencies that is managed by a system. If you programming it as a CONV object rather than a TGRP + TSYS object, then the scanner does not follow the conversations you want to hear and will simply listen to everything that happens to land on that frequency as assigned by the radio system.

EDIT: I just noticed that you also have 4 different TSYS programmed for SIRN, I did this as well when I first tried got into scanning with the Pro-106. It looks like all the talkgroups you want to program are all under the same system, so therefore you only really need to have 1 TSYS (SIRN) and then program all the talkgroups associated to that single TSYS. The Pro-106 does not need a TSYS programmed into each Scan List as the older scanners with banks did (such as the Pro-2096).

So with this, all your TGRP are programmed to 1 TSYS but only the TGRP are assigned to a Scan List. Scan List 1 can have Police, Scan List 2 can have State, Scan List 3 for Fire, and Scan List 4 for Misc.
