• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

And because KW insisted nothing was wrong with their radios you got free PM's on all your sites. And, unlike now, all sites with the exception of Singleton Bend were Quantar's, so not a simple task. ;)
Funny you mention Singleton...going through the pros/cons of actually getting off of that tower when we upgrade from GTRs.

If EFJ was so good, why didn't they make it on their own?
Because they did.

EFJ manufactured radios even post acquisition by JVCK. Look at the history of the Viking series. First generation while they did have there issues from manufacturing were largely manufactured in Irving, TX. Production was eventually shifted to Japan but it was all still the original EFJ designs. The shift to the second generation of which was manufactured on top of existing NX hardware using EFJ firmware which resulted in the loss of a true multiband offering but lead to EFJ developing a soft-multiband feature for the VM7000 that you don't get on the NX mobile. The third generation is exclusive to EFJ and actually built to EFJ's design specifications minus some restrictions JVCK put in what hardware could be included. Realistically, EFJ is a rather small company though as they only employ about 200 employees so when you are that small (as we are seeing with BK Technologies) having large scale manufacturing capabilities isn't always the most beneficial for the product line.

Speaking of BK, let's be honest about the KNG-850P(I think it is) is an absolute POS. Sure the trunking Rx only feature is nice, but it's the bottom of the barrel when it comes to P25 trunking.

Oh,, Im aware of EFJ's past (including the little debacle that set them back a bit),and how they touted I think it was the 5100 how it was just like an xts for whatever thats worth or was worth, and things present.
I agree, the firmware and corresponding Armada software is a good thing, but that comes out of Lincoln Nebraska where they dont have quite the same attitude of Irving Texas.
Not going there there here.
