• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I bought a Kenwood 8360 on E-bay. It programmed just fine, but there is an audio "beeping" 2-3 times per second that I can't get rid of.

Any thoughts or suggestions? My local off-road shop says it's a radio issue, not a programming issue, but frankly I'm not sure they know any more about it than I do,

Post the radio information on the radio tag on the radio.
Did you program the radio outside of its working range?
Does it have a bad battery?
Versions and variations
  • TK-8360HU:
The "HU" suffix typically indicates a version for a non-European market, such as North America, with a frequency range of 450-520 MHz.

  • TK-8360E:
The "E" suffix denotes the European version, which operates on the 400-470 MHz frequency band.

  • TK-8360M2:
This version is also a non-EU model with a 400-470 MHz frequency range.

  • TK-8360H:
The "H" in the model name generally refers to a higher power output model, typically around 45 or 50 watts.

What is a vco

Voltage controlled oscillator. It's the thing that generates RF.

and how do I unlock it?

By programming a frequency that is outside the designed range of the radio.

That's why Evans is asking for the file. He needs to see what you have programmed into the radio and compare that to the capabilities of the radio.

The TK-8360 is -only- spec'd for 450MHz to 520MHz. If you try to force a file into the radio that has frequencies outside that range, it's going to complain. If the programmed frequencies are too far outside that range the voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) will not lock and the radio will start beeping to tell you that.

What frequencies have you programmed into this radio? Did you try to put VHF frequencies in? Did you try to put 70cm amateur radio frequencies in?

It's also possible that the radio is out of alignment, a previous owner diddled with the alignment, or some component has failed.
