If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I searched the forums a bit before posting, my apologies in advance if this has already been asked.

We recently switched Kenwood dealers and are working with someone out of state, they have been great but on the occasion I need a minor reprogram on some of our units I thought it would be really nice to have access to KPG-D6N (for NX-1300s) as well as 1-2 of the older KPG softwares for our older radios, I kind of feel bad shipping 1-2 radios to them to bother them with minor changes we want to make.

I see people on these forums referencing having access to KPG-D6N and older versions of KPG and have been wondering how you are acquiring access? I know Kenwood is different than Motorola and seems to attempt to limit it to dealer access but I see lots of older KPG versions for sale online just not KPG-D6N. I feel I am proficient enough with this type of work to handle some light adjustments (for example changing channel names on some AUK5s or changing programmable keys) and we have probably 100+ radios so it would be really nice to be able to do in house.

Any recommendations or am I out of luck?

Thanks!

@kd4efm is your guy.

Kenwood changed the software starting with the NX-5000 line, and has continued it through the NX-3000 and now the NX-1000 series.
The software is licensed per seat, so it's not like in the old days where once you had the software, you could load it on as many machines as you want. The new stuff requires a license.
You'd need the activation key for the software, the software itself as well as the KPT-300 license management software that handles it all. Sounds like a pain in the butt, but it's totally manageable.

Even if you buy the key from someone else, you still need the latest software for your radios. Probably a good idea to have a good relationship with a dealer since periodic software/firmware updates happen and you'll need to update.

Thanks to all for the assistance, I will reach out to the recommended contacts!

In regards to your comment @mmckenna I definitely plan on continuing to work with my dealer, they are really great, just seems logical to be able to make slight adjustments in house ad not bother them, come to think of it I probably could have asked them to purchase a license.

Have a nice day all.

You might want to keep your dealer(s) in the loop when you make even minor changes, as they likely will store your programming info, and you don't want your changes being lost when they program new radios or service the old ones and fail to notice the discrepancies. Proactive is better than reactive.

Now someone just told me they have 2 BC500DU radios so obviously I know there breacom branded and now I need to know which Kenwood series they belong to but I’m assuming 500 will fall under the NX1000 series? If anyone can confirm so I can get the correct programming software I would appreciate it. Thanks

Kenwood Radios are Kenwood Radios Designed to be used with the Kenwood Software list for them.
Any other Radio that may or not may be made by Kenwood would be designed to use the software stated for said radio.

Well I know for reference Motorola makes the BPR40/Mag One radio and then bearcom brands the BC130 both use same cable and same software only difference is who’s name is labeled on the radio but it’s Motorola inside. So I assume this is a Kenwood radio identical outside, I’ll have to check the guts inside but I’m guessing bearcom paid a pretty little penny just for their name to be put on the radio and give a different model number specific to their brand just for marketing aspects

That's an NX-1300 with a Bearcom sticker on it.

Not sure I'd bet money on KPG-D6N working with it. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd done something with firmware/software to require specific Bearcom software with it. If I was local, I'd offer to plug into one to see if it'll talk with the Kenwood software.

I am shocked that Motorola Branded Radios would still be Programable by other Software.
Perhaps I wasn’t 100% specific but hopefully I can explain a bit better? So bearcom wireless is a sales/service/rental provider of LMR radios. They are a Motorola dealer I believe they recently got a deal with Kenwood. They don’t have a specific radio software (to my knowledge) so the software is from the big boys that they paid to put their bearcom name on the housing to sell directly from the shop

Correct. The BCU500DU is a NX-1300DUK with a Bearcom badge and ESN sticker. And it does use KPG-D6N.
