To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Greetings -

We have a Kenwood TK-5710 that was in a squad that had ignition sense enabled and was working with a 10 minute timer. The squad was in a wreck and the radio (undamaged) was removed and then installed in our new one. When the squad was delivered we noticed that the radio will not power down after 10 minutes. In examining we found that they took the ignition sense wire (Pin # 1 on the 9 pin molex from the drawer unit) and left it disconnected and taped.

We ran a new ignition sense wire from a confirmed ignition sense spot off of the Fuse panel. However, still no luck on the ignition power off function and the radio stays on all the time. We checked the pin and the programming and programmed the radio once again with the same parameters. Still no luck on the power off functionality and we are at a loss.

We do have it set-up to power on/off by the button as well as the ignition sense. We even tried powering off the radio and then turning on the ignition to see if ti would power on and still no luck. What am I missing or doing incorrectly here?

Thanks in advance for anyones help here.

First a suggestion, set the timer to zero to troubleshoot the ignition sense faster. You won't have to wait the 10 mins. Then set it back when you get it working right.

Next a question, is your main red/black power cable switched also? If so, is it on a battery switch or ignition also?

This is from the help file. We have seen this from some users a few times.

Ignition & Switch:
The transceiver can be turned ON or OFF using both Ignition Sense and the Power switch. Even if the Ignition Sense status is High, the transceiver can be turned OFF by pressing the Power switch. If Ignition Sense is enabled and if the Power switch is pressed and held for more than 1 second, the Timed Power-off is disabled.

The ignition sense input is pretty simple. Pin one from either the brick or the head goes to a transistor for level reversal and then straight to the ASIC processor. Not too much to go wrong.

Pull all power for a reset and then try different combinations to see if you can get any results. They normally don't get confused but the power on sequence is a little more involved than you think.

You may want to just confirm 12 volts at the connector to the radio. If you have a DVM with a small enough probe, you can just cram it in the molex hole next to the wire without unplugging it. Also make sure the pin is fully seated in the connector. If that is OK and the ignition sense is enabled in spftware it should just work.

If it still doesn't work there is some pretty nasty troubleshooting you can check inside the radio. Best to consider a trip to the repair bench.

I have definitely checked all power connections (B+ on the brick, power on pin # 1 on 9 pin molex on ign) and things were still not working.

Not sure what happened with this install at all. Maybe will swap it out with one that is on B + disconnect and call it good.

I'd probably look at CN783. It's where the 9 pin molex connector connects to the board. Make sure it didn't get jarred loose in the collision, or some installer yanking on the cable too hard. Also check for continuity from the molex pin to the board to make sure the wire isn't damaged.
