The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking at a used mobile radio. A KNG-M150, the owner did not program it so he can not answer some questions before I buy. I would assume they can set a password in the program so without it nobody else could program it. Is that right? Watched a bunch of videos and I know there is a password set to program from the keypad but nobody talks about the regular programming. Would guess it is just like a Motorola and anybody that programs it can set a password to keep others from changing the radio. Not sure if he can not tell me if I want to run the risk of buying it. And I do not want to spend $150 to buy the program to find out that was a waste as well. Been using Motorolas for a very long time. Started carrying the MT500 if anybody else on here can remember that far back. And at times I think being rock bound was easier.

Seller had a guy that worked for a shop program it so he does not know if it has a password or not. Think he is being honest and I'd like to buy the radio but do not want to buy a brick or pay shipping to a shop and then fees to unlock if it is. Can anybody tell me I find it is locked can you use Wireshark to get the password if it ends and is password protected?

Got the software coming soon and he is letting me try out the radio. Will run the numbers then. But can somebody tell me if there is a default password the software might use if nobody changed the one in the software and then check the box. I know I've seen it happen they check the password box and forget to see what the program sets as a default password

The only "default" password in a BK radio would be for FPP, and it is 000000. I have never seen or used a read/write password on a BK, just by their intended use on large multi agency events that is asking for trouble. If you do want to add a read/write password you can, it is labeled PC Access Password. If the radio you are getting does have a PC password I don't know how you could recover it, and no you can not just write a new codeplug without the PW.

Thank you. Is there a way to program in a TX inhibit? Want to add the weather channels and do not want to key up on those for sure. Just got the software in today so just starting to look at it. Been looking at a few videos but have not seen how to do that. Did one video from BK that does a pretty good job going thru programming but did not see how to lock out the TX on a channel. Which I bet they have

Just type in 000.000 in the TX freq.

What version of RES did they send you? 5.13.xx has some bugs, we use 5.11.00 in the shop.
