• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I was updating programming on a bunch of radio's yesterday using KPG-D1 and wanted to continue this morning, however I am now getting an error message on reading my radio's, or even opening a saved file. Anyone have any insights as to what the issue might be? I hope it is not my system key. It was updated by the system administrator less than a year ago...
The data cannot be read since an invalid Home System ID or System Code and Network Category is configured for the data. To read this data, restart the FPU after configuring the System Key File or Access Key required for this file.

Item 1, did you program these with a system key? If so, did you check to make sure the KEY folder is pointed to the right folder in setup?
Item 2, the D1N you are using, a single instance or do you have multiple D1 Licenses in the LMC.

That is the generic error message involving a SKF that is no longer seen by D1 for said codeplug and or radio WITH A SYSKEY, that does not match. However, if any radio has a different SYSTEM KEY, you will also get the same error when you read the radio.

The SKF is LICENSE SPECIFIC. If you used a D1N with 1 activation, and then opened a another D1N with a different activation (like WIDE BAND)
then the SKF would not match the other licensed D1, again, the error would result.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't know what happened, but for some reason the check mark for "Use Advanced System Key' under Set-up - Advanced System Key was unchecked. I checked it again and now everything seems to work. Glad it wasn't my system key, cause getting that updated takes about two weeks...

I have a crappy HP laptop, the USB ports on which sometimes do not work right after the laptop sleeps. They sort-of work, but just not well enough to read a radio completely or an ASK dongle. Shut down to power off, boot, and it works fine again. I'm guessing something like this happened, and D1 could not read the dongle, so it set itself back to non-ASK mode.
