Does anyone know if the Los Angeles Fire Department (City) uses the I-CALL feature?

If so, what numbers do use and how are they programmed into the Uniden BCD396T?

Thanks.

Private calls are a function of trunked systems, according to the database LAFD uses conventional freqs.

Does LA City TRS and LA County TRS Use I-CALL?

LAFD is a conventional system (not trunked), they do not have an I-call feature.
Oh yeah, duh.

With that said, does the LA City Services TRS and the Los Angeles County Servcies TRS use I-CALL?

They will pop up in the Search mode....I dont listen to LA TRS too much...but during the "protests" logged IDs like:

i04872
i04877
i05721
i06625

it sounded like they were trying to set up a video feed to the EOC via an LAPD or other city helicopter. I suspect they were ISD technicians, but who knows!

IDs in Search Mode of TRS

Sometimes when I am scanning a TRS in search mode, I get IDs that look like "ID: #####" as opposed to a normal ID like "#####." Is this I-CALL?

I believe they have the small "i" before the radio number. The 396T and 296D operate a little differently....for example, in Phoenix an Encypted TG will show up as DATA on the 396, while you will hear gobblygook on the 296D

L. A. F. D. I-call

Ok, I know that LAFD is not on a TRS and therefore does not have I-CALL; but what is this (note the I-CALL under the Fireground listings - Taken from the RR Database for LAFD):
866.01250 866.01250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 19 Fireground Mutual Aid (I-CALL) FM
866.51250 866.51250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 20 Fireground Mutual Aid (I-TAC1) FM
867.01250 867.01250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 21 Fireground Mutual Aid (I-TAC2) FM
867.51250 867.51250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 22 Fireground Mutual Aid (I-TAC3) FM
868.01250 868.01250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 23 Fireground Mutual Aid (I-TAC4) FM
868.51250 868.51250 WPAT870 M 156.7 PL 24 Fireground Mutual Aid (CLEMARS) FM

Those are the five "International Interoperability" Channels,

I-Call 866.0125
ITAC 1 866.5125
ITAC 2 867.0125
ITAC 3 867.5125
ITAC 4 868.0125

The International channels are Public Safety, for use in Canada, U.S., and Mexico. Mobile use of these 5 channels is included in each agency's 800 MHz system license by FCC Rule. Base station or repeaters, and all use of the two Statewide channels (CLEMARS 8/9 and FIREMARS) is by agreement with State OES (with licenses held by the State of California).

So the I-CALL listed with LAFD is different then the I-CALL in TRSs? Maybe I don't quite get what I-CALL is in TRSs!
I'm way behind the curve on most trunked stuff too... since we don't do trunking up here on the north coast. But yes, my understanding is that on trunked systems Icall is a mode for two units to have a "private" conversation with each other.

These I-Call and I-Tac frequencies like LAFD has (as well as similar sets of V-Tac and U-Tac freqs for VHF and UHF) are conventional "mutual aid" type interoperability frequencies.

Ah, the good old same phrase means two different things problem:

In mutual aid:
I-Call is the 800 MHz mutual aid frequency used for initial contact and coordination. Once communications are established, an I-Tac is supposed to be assigned for the incident.

In trunked radio:
I-Call or "individual call" is a specific radio to specific radio communication, allowing two users to have a "private" conversation.

Individual Call, LA County TRS

On CWIRS, LA Countys EDACS system the individual call feature has been disabled at the system level, due to concerns about system resources.
