What TGID are you trying to hear LCSO on?

It should be 18.
I admit I don't know anything about any of this, I just program using ProScan, what is the TGID? and how do I find out if I'm listening to the right one?

OfficerJim if you don’t have all the Talk Groups programmed into your BCD996P2 you could be missing traffic if the scanner is on ID Scan and not on ID Search. ID search will receive any unlocked unencrypted talk group whether programmed into the scanner. It is probably a simulcast system issue but I would still check and make sure you haven’t inadvertently locked out some Talk groups.

I would try moving the yagi antenna a few degrees then listen to the scanner. As someone else mentioned it doesn’t matter where the yagi is pointing as long as the scanner works. It is entirely possible the best reception on Lake County simulcast system is with the Yagi pointing completely away from Lake County. You won’t know until you do some experimenting.

There is a new simulcast system coming online where my Daughter lives. It appears my BCD325P2 is not working on this system at her house. I think an SDS100/200 is in my future, lol.

Thanks for the reply. I program my scanner using ProScan and a Radioreference subscription, just import it from the database, I do make sure it's ID scan and not search. I'll try fiddling with the Yagi, but what has me puzzled is, when I first moved here I heard Lake County just fine using my Discone, but then one day nothing, can't afford a new scanner yet, so I'll keep playing around with ideas, thanks again

Hearing LCSO fine in the Munster area on a G5. More than likely the simulcast problem others have mentioned.
Unfortunately an SDS scanner or a Unication pager is the only option. Bearcat Warehouse has a trade-in program that could offset the price for your 996P2 ($105) or try and sell it elsewhere. The symptoms you're describing are simulcast distortion and your results will be a consistent headache.

Just a quick follow up: I tried everyone's suggestions, except buying a new scanner, and nothing worked, but yesterday I reprogrammed my scanner, (using proscan and RR subscription) and instead of checking "ID Scan" I checked "ID Search" and as I suspected I heard EVERYBODY on the "lake County Public Safety" system, but...I now hear Lake County Sheriffs as well, I then re-checked "ID Scan" and I no longer hear them. I import straight from the RR database, I double check what was imported, can't see anything missing.

Unless you’re importing every Talk Group you want to hear and leaving it unlocked you won’t hear anything on ID Scan.

If you are listening on ID search and press yes when someone is talking you can save the Talk Group to the Quick Save file. You can then change the name and move the saved Talk Group to the Agency or however you have your scanner organized.

Not sure about all that, that's why I use proscan to program. what I do is open proscan, import from RR, go o database, choose County trunk system, then choose "Lake County public safety" click "Check all sites" then choose the TGID's that I want to monitor, but as I said if I choose ID scan I no longer hear anything, only if i choose ID search is when I hear what I want, but unfortunately I hear EVERYONE as well. Thanks for the response

Here is info regarding ID scan versus ID search I copied from Marks easier to read scanner manual web site. If the Talk Group is locked Out (Avoid) or not programmed into the system (correctly) the scanner will not stop on the transmission. ID Search will stop on any unlocked non encrypted ID transmission even if not programmed into the Group/system. It is possible to save Talk Group ID’s into a locked out Group or into an unintended group.

BCD996P2

ID Scan Mode- the process of monitoring trunked systems for “”programmed active talkgroup IDs in ID groups, in programmed 'systems'.””

ID Search Mode- the process of monitoring trunked systems for all active talkgroup IDs in ID groups, in programmed 'systems'.

Thanks, I do know the difference of the 2, but what I was trying to say is, when in ID search I can hear the Sheriffs, but when I switch back to ID scan I no longer can despite importing from RR using proscan, don't know why.

Alright I did it! I broke down and just ordered the SDS200, Uniden offered a discount through GovX of $70, I would like to thank everyone for their support, hopefully I won't have issues with this.

I was just composing a response to your BCD996P2 issues. The SDS100/200 are very nice scanner and I would still keep the BCD996P2. One advantage to the SDS200 is sentinel programming and/or programming by zip code/location. The disadvantage is the terminology is just a little different than used with the BCD996P2/BCD325P2. There is a learning curve with the SDS200 but most people adapt pretty quick. The SDS200 work really well on 700/800 trunked systems.

Let us know how you like your SDS200!

You will like the SDS200. It is the best scanner I have owned ever! I also own a 996, and the SDS200 is definitely better on simulcast systems.

I liked the SDS200 so much I broke down and bought the SDS100, there is definitely a learning curve with both, but once you start to figure it out it's not so bad, I did play around with programming it with Sentinel and ProScan, each has it's pros and cons, all and all I like them and glad I can finally hear what I lost with the 996, I'm still learning some features so I'm sure I'll be back. Thanks.

Thanks I appreciate that, since I bought the SDS100, and 200, I haven't had any issues, hearing Lake County and ISP just fine
