I am glad to see a list of talk groups on the starcom21 database page. Even if it has lots of encryption. But the list looks better than McHenry and Cook county sites with full enc. Also its nice to see in Lake County the departments migrating over. Have a open dispatch and a secure channel for most of them.

If my area ever goes Full enc in the future, I'll simply move to another county where its not ... I enjoy the hobby enough that I refuse to be beat by the politics!:wink: 73, n9zas

Board Advances Radio Project to Improve Public Safety

Posted on the Lake County website 14 Jan 16... Various public safety agencies and first responders use radios to communicate, but sometimes their radios are incompatible because they operate over different frequencies and channels. This can result in uncoordinated response, which can hinder the ability to save lives and property. Lake County is part a multi-jurisdictional team that is working on a major initiative to improve communications interoperability. Watch this video to learn more.

That's wonderful for Lake Co and now a disaster for the scanner listeners who will face "Encryption" like I have in Joliet....Joliet is now wanting help from the public on many shootings and robberies and all the scanner listeners are all shut out.....Interoperability and cooperation GONE!!!!!

Here is a great handful of new towns joining with the County. But with all that interoperability seem like only certain town or city's will work. Otherwise it's a phone call.

One does not need a police scanner if they want to help their local police force. I myself let them do their thing and stay away. Scanner is for our curiosity about the happenings around town. I already pulled the plug on Lake county.

There is about 14/ 15 clear channels one can monitor. Although one can monitor the conventional frequencies.

Interoperability isn't affected at all. If a town has an MOU to operate on a neighboring jurisdiction's frequencies, which they would need, then included in that MOU would be the sharing of all applicable encryption keys. Cook County does the same thing, McHenry County does, etc.. An officer may not be able to listen on their own personal scanner anymore, but that's not what interoperability is in this sense.

Complain all you want. Wont change .. Thanks to Easy and Cheap encryption, the fact that a neighboring county and NWCD police are both encrypted and the fact that Lake county has already had interference from an unauthorized user.. Who by the way was a member here who obtained information on programming the system from help here..Sorry the decision has been made Officer safety and security of the system is much more important that the upset scanner listener.

You can't blame scanner hobbyist for ******* Raymond Kelly! Don't forget Convicted Raymond Kelly is a repeat offender! He has Wisconsin convictions and multi Lake County convictions. He also was into this as a employment. Didn't he work at RCI Electronics? And just because you know the 8 site frequencies and talk group ID to the jail channel from the database dosent mean every can program a pirate radio.

Have you considered my suggestion of writing a letter to the editor? Or going in-front of the Joliet city council to voice your opinions/concerns?

Ron-in Joliet I don't know how much whining your going to still do because your town has a secured communication system let it go. If you choose not to help your locals during crime sprees due to secured communications either help or don't help. I myself would not help unless the crime is against me and I will do something about it without the cops, have done already on several occasions. I highly doubt writing to newspapers and talking with your congress people is going to change the secured communications they give a rats A** what you want. I already pulled the plug on Lake county sheriff gone and not ranting and whining about I just did it. I am looking forward with the additional locals that will be on STARCOM 21. Let it go life is too short to worry about the small stuff.

Headline conflates narrowbanding with the move to SC21, but usually the people who write the articles aren't the ones writing the headlines....

In any case, the Lake simulcast group was showing 700 MHz freqs a week ago, so there's progress there. No activity on those freqs at that time though.

Any word of the 700 mhz freqs. that they system will use. thanks.

Ron.. No amount of whining is going to change the departments policy to appease you or other scanner listener It is officer safety and that is the only justification they need to give. That's life.. accept it..
