Another fatality reported. Scannerlive lets you set up the right and left channels as separate so it scans them better.

Was looking at Google Maps of the area. Looks like San Bruno FD has/had a station right near the blast area (corner of Skyline & Sneath). Be real interesting to hear/read their report when this is all over.

Yup.. a 24" main will have >5400 cubic inches, or 23.5 gallons, of natural gas per linear foot of pipe. If they had to shut it down slowly to avoid ruptures elsewhere (can't slam it shut or the vibrations will damage things), and the shutdown was a good distance away, that would take ages to drain.

I seem to recall a fire in the US central Great Lakes area back in the '80s - can't remember exactly where. Someone stealing metal from a natural gas substation managed to damage a regulator that brought the mains pressures down to residential pressures (~35psi to 1/4 or 1/8 psi). Suddenly 20-60 houses had five foot long flames coming from the pilot lights of all their gas appliances. Having you guys mention the residential lines reminds me of that.

Update

North branch units have been advised to assume power lines are still HOT. Awaiting confirmation from PG&E that they have been de-energized

That went out to all branches a few moments before that while the right channel was drowning it out.

Hearing that the power failure over the entire region (obviously from wires down) is causing cell sites to fail which is causing everyone - police, civilians, fire, etc - to be unable to communicate by phone.
