Using this system as an example, can today's 2-meter mobile radios monitor this frequency? I recall something a few years ago that 2-M radios on the market could not monitor P25 or otherwise digital systems.

(Looking to stop carrying 5 radios in my car)

Thank you

In a nutshell. NO True 2 M ham radios do not do P25. Part 90 commercial radios with P25 can be programmed for Ham part of the VHF spectrum
I have a Motorola VHF XTS3000 programmed for multiple channels in numerous zones on all Amateur Radio frequencies P25 and analog. You installed two VRS-750s in my car interfaced to my UHF & VHF Astro Spectras respectively Tom, as I'm certain you remembered eight years ago. I've since obtained new Impres batteries for the ‘3000 and my UHF XTS5000. They are both FPP and work as well as they did when I first obtained them approximately 15 years ago.

Motorola Astro Spectra for a mobile will cover the ham bands and does conventional P25 with no issues. XTL5000 is the newer version and costs about the same these days. Bendix King or Midland occasionally can be found for cheap also covers those requirements. The ability to front panel program might be an issue but how often are you actually programming on the fly? All sorts of options that do both narrow and wide band / analog and P25 conventional.

Of course sourcing a cheap P25 phase I scanner isn’t a difficult proposition these days. Likely the easiest option in this case especially if trunking is in play.

@billpritjr If you have questions about monitoring your local public safety radio systems, it would probably be best to ask in the appropriate state-specific forum. If you have questions about a specific scanner, it would probably be best to ask in the appropriate scanner-specific forum.

As for monitoring your local P25 system with a typical ham radio transceiver, I think you have your answer.
