That video is eerie and badass at the same time! Can you choke down the fade by reducing your RFgain? I just wondered-my R75 does a beautiful job of that whereas the R71 wont as much on AM. Neverthe less what a neat DX:)

Whatsdoin Charlie-I'm rockin the SWL today and you're owning the AMDX especially with that Nebraska catch:) I just cannot get that one here-you being out there in the valley must give you a better toss over the Rockies where I fall flat. But yeah conditions have been great all through the day today-I got some rare SW catches up by 15mhz!

Haven't heard so many "barely hear 'ems" 5x5 and wall to wall as tonight in a long time.
Noise floor is very low, one reason, kinda scary, actually,'cause it's so rare. But many that usually fade are pretty solid. I see by your posted pix that your Icom workhorse has been workin!! 15 mhz..means things are definately lookin' up!!

0816z 7200kc Voice of Korea in Chinese? Pretty sure..... First N. Korea catch!
0827z 7275kc KBS World Radio, also poor and noisy, definitely Asian language...2 for 2 on Korea tonite!
0834z 7320kc Either Radio Rossii or Voice of Croatia, lively music and singing, no ID caught (prob RR to Far East)
0849z 8180kc very strong open carrier, no modulation.......?
0852z 8828kc very weak Auckland volmet
0854z 8861kc very weak Magadan volmet
0855z 8957kc weak Shannon volmet
0903z 9410kc strong carrier, no modulation, listed as Radio Netherlends

New setup.....Outdoor antenna connected to a Rat Shack amplified shortwave antenna (more as a preselector than amp), to a DX440, and then to laptop. Found this dsp filter, seems to work well.

I hate that! I don't get why so many restrictions here-they got a ton of bandwidth. Even the smilies are the smallest collection I have seen yet. It's like you have a 1000hp V16 but the factory shoved a block behind the go pedal. Anyways still a nice place I like it.

That Radio Shack amp. SW ant.-is it the square black one with a telescoping whip and two knobs? I think it's the "20-280"? I have one too-they are very cool and super rare! I don't use mine because I find having to keep tuning it to the frequency I land on annoying.Take care of yours-you'll never see these again:)

Yeah, that's the one! Great little unit. I keep an eye out on eBay for 'em, but they don't come around much. There is a DAK branded unit that shows up sometimes that goes down to 2mc, but I haven't won one of those....yet. I don't mind the tuning knob, sometimes works better tuning off frequency for the null.

Yeah I remember there's a sweet spot off to one side of dead on where ya still get plenty of carrier but much less garbage...you got me thinking about trying mine out on this randomwire:)
