I am looking for a better alternative to the dual band (2M/70cm) Cushcraft A270-10S Yagi antenna with at least five elements per band for Amateur Radio use. Maximum power will be 100 watts input to the antenna. Any suggestions? TIA! 73, Dave K4EET

Lots of single band alternatives and you can stack them vertically with virtually no interaction. I could have made you a great deal on a 33ft long 2m Yagi from M2, nobody wanted it in my area and I had to sell it very cheap.

M2 makes a very sturdy and well built antenna. One of the best.

@prcguy and @w4bce, thanks for the M2 tip. I have heard of that brand but didn’t know anything about M2. I’ll definitely take a good look at the lineup now.

In the past, I have had 44 elements on 2 Meters (four 11 element beams stacked 2 by 2). When I bought those beams back in the 1970s, they cost $99 for each phased 22 element pair. A similar Cushcraft beam arrangement now would cost north of $1500! 😳😳😳 That’s about right for inflation. In May 1974 dollars of $200, today’s dollars would be $1300. Wow!

Now I am scaling back in my antennas since I can no longer do the work myself. Hence the 5 elements instead of 44 elements. 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks again to both of you!

We have a local crew of about a dozen hams that chat regularly in the evenings using SSB on 2m, 70cm and 23cm.. I have separate Yagis for each band, but two hams are using this log periodic: Create CLP-5130-1N Create CLP-5130-1N VHF/UHF Log-Periodic Antennas | DX Engineering

Specs show the A27010S has a gain of 10 dBd The log periodic isn't quite as good at 7.85 dBd.. It's pretty close.

One fellow with this antenna is 52 miles from me. We talk simplex no problem over flat terrain on 2m and 70cm, (And sometimes on 23cm depending on conditions. We usually need a bit of ducting for that).
