really

i didnt really think that nextel would be considered a reliable source of communications for such a real time service such as swat. isent there a small delay between communications ? what if the cell towers were without power . my suspicion is that they are on uhf somewhere, seeing how they could be crawling in and through most any type of buildings / terrains . i know alot of comercial buildings are RF holes where it is very diffacult to get service. dont think i would want my life depending on a nextel. i am sure they are not near as durable as some of the comercial radios used by the sheriff dept and other police dept's. but i could be wrong , happens all the time !

You'd be surprised how many SWAT Teams and other public safety agencies use NexTel.
The SWAT team that covers where I live uses NexTel

A lot of people forget that NexTel offers a 'Group Dispatch' option in addition to the Direct Connect.

swat teams

Well, in my listening area i found the local swat teams are hi-band or 800mhz.If you ever catch them out some time or highlights from your local news channels, see what their antennas look like. and another thought, what do they normally use when they are not on swat operations.? and last but not least, do some old "searching" on your scanner. It has work for me quite a bit.
