Lots of errors with Fusion decoding. P25 works perfectly.

Hi,

I am in Howard County Maryland where we have a P25 local Govt system as well as SystemFusion ham radio repeaters.

I have DSDPlus working very well with the local trunking system. Audio is perfect.

When I switched the Fusion repeater I can hear the audio and it is somewhat readable, but there are lots and lots of ERR messages. I feel like something isn't right.

Any suggestions on what I need to change to hear the Fusion audio properly?

Thanks,
John

Might need to toggle off the shaping filter. Maybe the channel filtering is too narrow. Hard to say what's wrong without seeing a raw audio recording.

I'm running a machine with similar specs and the latest Fastlane release as of this posting, 2.246. I'm having zero issues decoding my local fusion repeater. Filter is set to 12khz and I disabled my shaping filter. How strong is the signal coming in? High error rates usually indicate a weak signal

Thanks for helping me. I would have figured it's due to low signal, but the signal level is very good. I'm ~5 miles from the repeater with an outdoor 2m/70cm antenna. I'll figure out how to disable the shaping filter.

I just purchased SDSPlus and am using the stock configuration so maybe there are some config changes I need to make.

Thank you!

I have experimented with the shaping filter on and off. I've also experimented with different bandwidth filters. I can't improve the audio. It's barely readable. I see lots of errors in the console. Does anyone recognize this problem and have some advice?

John

Hi,

I'm struggling to get readable voice from DSD+ Fastlane for Fusion signals. P25 works perfectly.

Please see my screen capture below. The signal level looks great. The waveform looks clean, yet I see gobs of Fusion+ errors from DSDPlus. I can barely understand the speech. What am I doing wrong?

Why would you post a brand new thread related to the same topic? You already have a thread open.

At any rate, if it were me I'd probably increase bandwidth to 12.5 (focus on the FMP24 waterfall window and press "b" until you see bandwidth at the top change from 9.5 to 12.x). Then i would probably lower my gain, since there is usually no case in which one would get the best SNR with max gain (and 49.5 is max gain). So use G and g (to increase and decrease gain) when focused on the FMP24 waterfall window to lower the gain value to something in the 30s. Then, it looks like you aren't absolutely "on frequency". Looks a little off to me.

Yeah, definitely looks a bit off frequency. A wider bandwidth may help with that. RF gain is far too high and it's causing all kinds of garbage in the spectrum display.

Turning on the eye pattern might provide some clues.

I also have problems with Fusion, sometimes it's fine and other times just full of errors and terrible audio.

Have tried changing all settings but when it's bad nothing works. I am only 3 miles from repeater so very strong signal.

If it's a strong signal three miles from you, then cut down to the gain significantly so that instead of a 60 db signal you have something like a 30 db signal. And make sure you're running with a bandwidth of 12.5.

Maybe it's SDR and software dependant, try using an SDRDuo with SDRuno software and tell me it handles it fine. ;)

If you aren't using FMP24 / FMPA / FMPP + DSDPlus FastLane, then Fusion works great. If you're using something else, you shouldn't be.

I have experimented with different bandwidth and gain settings, but am still getting terrible audio. I am using 12.5 kHz bandwidth and have the gain set so that the level seems reasonable. I'm not sure what else I could be doing wrong. Please see the updated screen capture attached.83891
