MDT does make sense since not every officer has an MDT. I know there was an old 800mhz modem in some of the cars years ago and this might more of it. Chief, the dual shorty 800mhz antennas on the back of or on the roof of the cars. J-Town has some of them as well as Shively.

Makes a little more sense.

Have a good night...Gotta turn off the computer and turn on the scanner and listen to all the trees and wires down.

Yeah it did get quite interesting last night down here. I dunno how bad y'all got it up in Louisville but while i was spotting we got some nasty gusts. half the town lost power at some point or another. My car nearly went up on its side at one point. got slammed broadside by a 70mph gust. scanner wouldn't shut up for the next 3 hours. constant traffic. Rather interesting

Yeah i saw the NWS report about that. from the way they were talking the straightline winds from the storm did more damage than the tornado there. Not to mention it was a jumper and so there was no consistent path. It was a weak EF-1 so there really wasn't much to it. About 15 miles south of my position they said that while there was no tornado there was a series of microbursts that caused a tornado-like damage pattern for a mile and was a good 200 yards wide. They estimated top gusts from that at 90+. It did more damage than the actual tornado up there in Louisville. But it got pretty bad here too. we got one of the stronger portions of the storm, but not as bad as just south of here.

I don't think the storm gave any signs of tornadic activity on radar here because the NWS never issued a tornado warning and even if there had been spotters near the tornado they may not have even known it was there because it was night and I'd be willing to bet money that the tornado was rain wraped and those facters combined with the wind would make it pretty much impossible to see anything.

Kinda makes you wonder if maybe it was just a series of microbursts like what hit down here. They'll do similar damage and often don't have the radar reflections that tornadoes do. Kind of ironic how they issued a tornado warning down here and it ended up being nothing but microbursts but they did not issue a warning in Louisville and they ruled that a tornado. I'd like to see how they broke down the information to come to those two conclusions. I kept an eye on both the reflectivity and the velocity and nothing on velocity indicated a tornado except a lot farther to the north in Indiana. Just some food for thought

We might get more severe weather tomorrow including the possibility of isolated tornados.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTH CENTRAL
INDIANA AND CENTRAL KENTUCKY.

.DAY ONE...TONIGHT.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG A WARM FRONT WHICH WILL
SAG SOUTH INTO SOUTHERN INDIANA OVERNIGHT. SOME OF THESE STORMS WILL
BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN. THIS RAIN FALLING ON
ALREADY SATURATED GROUND MAY CAUSE SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS TO RISE
OUT OF THEIR BANKS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

A STRONG COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO PUSH THROUGH THE REGION TUESDAY
NIGHT. A LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY
ACCOMPANY THIS FRONT WHICH SHOULD BEGIN TO PUSH THROUGH THE REGION
AFTER 7 PM EST/ 6PM CST. DAMAGING WINDS AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE
THE PRIMARY THREATS FROM THIS LINE OF STORMS...THOUGH A FEW BRIEF
TORNADOES AND HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

SPOTTER ACTIVATION WILL BE NEEDED TUESDAY EVENING.

Yeah, it looks like there's a real possibility for a rough night--was monitoring the Mesonet (on the Louisville metro Skywarn repeater at 146.700), the meteorologist from the local NWS weather office in Louisville noted he expects the Storm Prediction Center to put at least western KY in a High Risk by tomorrow's Day 1 outlook...

Should make for some interesting scanning. Everyone, stay safe.

Yup they're saying the same thing about BG. models that i've looked at seem to point at the worst of it being farther to the south. I'm gonna try to pick up as far out west as i can on the SKYWARN so i can get some heads up on what's coming plus my eyes will be glued to the computer screen with the reflectivity and velocity radars. I agree it will be interesting. Be safe if you chase.

Well it happened again and this time it was BAD. I've heard the death toll is anywhere from 25-47 from last night's tornado outbreak across the south. At one point the NWS had a radar indicated tornado heading right for my neighborhood but nothing happened I'm happy to say.

Getting back into scanning recently (after having moved to Jefferson County), I have a question... I know the horse is dead but I must beat it once more. Do we know of any new news regarding Jefferson County's/ MetroSafe change? From what I've read in this forum, it looks to be a Motorola system/ APCO 25. Is there anyone out there that knows a specific time? Is it going completely digital? I'm just curious as I've bought a couple of scanners and they work great right now. I would hate for them to be obsolete in 6 months or less but this seems to be the case. If anyone could shed some light (if there is light to shed), I would GREATLY appreciate. Depending on response, I may be looking at a 396T or PSR-500.
Obviously, the change is coming, or so it seems.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd say by September 2009 the MetroSafe Radio system will be pretty much completely up and running. That's just however many tower sites (12 if memory serves correctly) are ready to go. They are in the process of building tower sites as we speak.

The time frame for agency switch-over is unknown at this time. There will be some 5,700 portable, mobile and base radios that will have to be delivered, programmed, installed and up and running. How long this takes is anyone's guess. I'm betting the cops go first, then EMS, then fire.

It will be a Motorola P25 trunked system, totally digital. So if you want to hear the system, you gotta have a digital capable scanner.

What are they doing with/to the "new" building down on Fifth, the old reserve bank.

I saw they had a big sign up, a log periodical antenna and a couple of long wire antennas, and the building seemed open for business. But I wasn't feeling really adventurous or I would have walked in to check it out.

When you say sign what are you refering? any kind of decription? My only guess would be an antenna site i was looking through the louisville license and they are all over downtown. 131 Search Results when you input louisville metro government im sure the answer is in there somewhere

edit- i just found a license at 410 s 5th street for a 400 mhz system

Yes, it's a big sign, just says Metrosafe in big letters. They bought the old Federal Reserve bank and are converting it. It is the old reserve bank building. Supposed to have machine gun turrets and such, if I remember the news articles, I imagine those are inside.

They are going to have two dispatch centers, the one on Fifth is the main one or will be. Barrett Ave is going to be a backup center.
