I have a low-frequency 'hum' in the background of my feed, only audible when there is no radio traffic. The scanner does not have this hum if it is unplugged from the cable. My guess is that the cable is picking up interference?? I thought it was a shielded cable. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!

It sounds like my situation, I dont have a feed, but I do feed my scanner into my PC for other purposes...I read in another post that the noise might be caused by a ground loop or something like that.

I took a ground wire that leads back to my ground spike, put a Ring Terminal on the radio end, and then fed the audio cable plug thru the ring terminal, and then plugged it in... it clears up all noise, humm or however you would describe it..mind you I'm not sure this is the proper way to do this, but it works great as far as I can tell.

Maybe the pro's on here can tell us why this works... :)

Quick question for you, are you using "Mic In" or "Line In" on your sound card? Using the "Mic In" will produce the same results because of an impedance mis-match.

Well since you've already ordered the ground loop isolator, give it a try when you get it.

If that doesn't work, you'll either have to live with the hum or get a different sound card either internal or external that has a "Line In" jack.

"Mic" is for use with microphones only.

"Line In" is for use with external audio sources such as "Scanners", "iPods", "MP3 Players", etc, etc.
