• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'll preface this by saying I have been repairing XPR 6 and 7 series radios for the past year as an amateur repair tech. Mostly swapping parts like channel and volume pots.
I've been getting low power readings (sub 3w) on my service monitor on a large batch of radios. Since I'm new to this type of work I'm not exactly sure where to look besides the obvious.
Batteries are good, battery contacts and all connections points are solid. RF jack, volume pot, channel encoders have all been replaced.
Firmware is upgraded and radios are all functional, just low power.
I'm worried about sending them back to a facility and having them not work properly because of this issue.

any insight to an amateur repair tech would be greatly appreciated.

So considering it's on a large number of radios, is it possible that all of those radios are programmed for low power operation in the CPS?

The issue could also be your test set. If you can verify on separate hardware, you would be verifying that the problem is them, and not you.

Good thinking! I should have clarified that they are all from different facilities. I'm just running into the problem more and more. They do have the buttons set for swapping to "low power" mode, but that does not seem to be the issue.

While that could be a possibility, I think it would be unlikely as my equipment was just recently tuned and seems to be in working order. I'm in kind of a weird spot because most repair technicians wont want to give information regarding repair techniques as it takes business away from them. So I'm kind of stuck looking for answers everywhere I can.

Are you testing in analog or Digital? A friend of mine told me if you test TDMA radios in digital on the service monitor its shows all kinds of weird power...Just a thought

Verify. Using that same logic is like saying your car "can't break again because you just had it fixed". Then you can start looking elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback. I tested these radios on a friends equipment as well. Same results.

That's good advice. I've tested in both analog and digital with my equipment and with a friend's. Both have the same results. I have a contact that works for motorola and he's trying to squeeze some info out of the techs there. If I get any from them I'll share it here.
