What are your needs? Do you require something that will withstand constant exposure to a harsh environment? Do you need something that's versatile and will decode across all bands with multiple protocols?

If you're looking to only monitor the CVRCS, both are equally good choices, it just depends on your needs.

If you want to also Monitor STARS, surrounding jurisdictions, etc., the SDS may be a better choice.

It all depends on what you need/want. Both will perform equally on the CVRCS.

Good morning all,
In SWVA simulcast I use both. The Unication G5 provides a real solid reception. The only draw back is the programming, there is a higher learning curve. I find the SDS100 works a little better in the simulcast. On several occasions I have done a side by side comparison working on the same antenna and the SDS100 received quicker but the G5 seemed a tad slower but had clear reception. I like both equally.
I use them interchangeably. As far as the Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS), they both work well. The SDS100 is my grab and go because of the Favorite Lists.
