To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

They will charge if you wanted to upgrade a feature. The cost varies on the requested feature.

WCRadio is correct. If want to add a new feature to the radio, there is a cost per feature and the different features have different costs. If you simply want to know what is currently in your radio, then there is no cost.

The list shows 39 and 40 as not assigned but I've seen an "engineer's toy" 700p (System model, RU series) with all 40 options listed in the options screen.

Freaky, man.

The radio is so packed full of stuff that when you change systems, it takes about two seconds for the radio to catch up!

FYI Your radio is a Field Engineers radio with conflicting options only designed for testing purposes. Not rated for actual end user use because the radio is full of bugs and errors. To a expert M/A-Com buyer they would stay away from radios such as that one. Its okay to use it as a scanner, but I wouldnt let my life depend on it as a firefighter or Law Enforcement officer for actual real life field use because the radio may fail.

Funny thing is those radios actaully sell higher in ebay auctions then the legit M/A-Com radios because people are fooled about all the feature numbers. But the truth those radios are worthless to a legit system operator because in order to use them on a actual system, firmware upgrades & the feature stream would have to be completly changed costing over $1,000 so many legit M/A-Com System users are left with a hefty bill or a paperweight when they thought they were getting a good deal turns into a disaster.

I'm not downing these types of radios, as I said before. They make good scanners, or if you buy a radio like this for a couple of hundred dollars it would still be a good deal. But you legit system operators out there, be careful what you buy.

I am trying to get Pro-Voice on my Orion. Currently I do not have the feature "29" loaded in the radio. Is there a download "patch" or something I can get from someone/somewhere to install into my radio? I have the ProGrammer software and the Radio Maintenance Software. Please advise, thanks.

Orions are a pain in the butt to upgrade. First you must have a 512K orion, if you have a 256K orion forget it, Option-29 is not possible. if you do have 512K then the next step is look at your logic board {That may need to be upgraded} I charge $650 plus shipping for that upgrade. Next, you have to install a ProVoice board, I charge $300 for that, then you can feature upgrade the radio costing you another $400 In all, is the orion upgrade worth it? Not to me. You might as well sell your orion on eBay & upgrade to a M7100, since that is a current model radio. But lots of Depts out there still rather do upgrades then actual new purchases, so whatever floats your boat. FYI if your orion is upgraded to ProVoice you will lose the Aegis feature if you have it. The radio does not support both.

If anyone needs ProVoice or any other feature upgrades on any current model radios feel free to email direct for a quote. We also sell P5100s, P7100IP, 700Ps, LPE-200s, M7100IPs, Jaguar 725Ms, & P7200s

Confirming, I've seen option 30 only on 5100s. Limited feature expansion should be correct for option 30.

Elroy

I've seen it on LPE radios as well. Specifically an LPE-50 which is a limited feature/capacity version of the LPE-200.

I mean, in the Jaguar series, I've only seen option 30 on 5100s. Never yet have I seen it
on a 700 or 7100.

I think it ALWAYS means you've got a lower tier radio. Sure sign of an LPE-50 or 5100.

Um, so can you run aegis in simplex, or thru a conventional repeater and can you use channell gaurd?

Yes and no. You can run Aegis simplex no problem. It doesn't use CG though, you program it with a CG on receive but only to keep the radio squelched. The radio doesn't send CG with the Aegis in transmit.

Through a repeater can be done but is more difficult. To make it work well you need a Mastr 3 repeater and a GETC shelf setup for conventional digital operation. If you try a basic repeater it will have to be carrier squelched and you will probably get a lot of late entering on the receiving radios as they will have to miss a couple of frames before they can sync up the data.

Provoice can be used as simplex but if you want to repeat it will have to be through an EDACS system.

38 is textlink?

How would that feature be programmed? I haven't seen that option in the programmer software, and that's when reading a radio that HAS that option in it. And it's not an
engineer's hacked radio, either.

I just repaired a radio that had been run over by something large and heavy, like at least
a humvee or maybe a fire truck, and then surplussed out from a military base.

It's a 7100IP and it contains the following numbered features:

01 04 05 06
07 08 09 10
12 14 17 22
23 29 33 34
35 37 38 39

It has a menu option I've never seen before:

RWSS ...what is that?

When scanning for a trunking system, the 25 indicator is displayed.

Obviously it's set up for a real P25 trunking system.

It wasn't difficult to repair it. But only the circuit board was salvageable.
All the rest of the radio was replaced from my stock parts supply.

It is important to note that the feature list isn't the same for different models of radio. Option 30 is different for an LPE than for a 5100, for example

RWSS Reverse Warm Start.

This control allows the radio to send a registration message to the KMF (Key Management Facility) to update the radio keys. It is used when the radio has a UKEK (User Key Encryption Key) but does not have a valid TEK (Traffic Encryption Key) or anytime the radio wants current key information from the KMF.

Applies to P7100, P7200, M7100, M7200, P5200.
