I am thinking of purchasing a 396XT Uniden scanner and want to use programming software. Is there any decent software for a Mac available? I DO NOT use Windows loading software so it has to be specially for a Mac. Thanks

Unfortunately the only thing that qualifies is bcprogtool - however the URL that we had in our wiki is gone. Go do a google search (it's TCL/TK software, but beware as it's unsupported...)

The real answer is to get a cheap desktop, load it up with memory and use one of the Windows apps (ARC-XT, FreeScan (which is freeware) or ProScan). There really is very little written specifically for anything beyond Windows...unless you use VMWare or Parallels (I understand that works OK, although I'm very far from a Mac person...)

Mac OSX possibility

I used Parallels/XP and PSREdit500 with great success. I did have some issues with the required driver, but eventually it worked well. The only issue I experienced was a tendency to croak an upload to the radio with a checksum error, which basically blows everything away. BE SURE you backup your radio prior to any upload.

Now, as suggested, I use a $288 :) Lenovo laptop running Win8. I use it only for Quicken and PSREdit and keep it in the safe the rest of the time.
