About 9:30 PM on Saturday the mother of the most recent murder victim in Lakewood Twp, Ocean County (whom now resides in Toms River) called the Dover Township Police to report shots fired by gang members hanging out in front of the Krausers convenience store at the intersection of Route 37 and Coolidge Ave. As per the caller they all fled in the direction of Adams Ave. after firing 5-6 shots. Gang members were all G.O.A. upon arrival. No one was injured.

Reminds me of a flyer I saw at the Toms River Bus Station a several years ago warning people about alleged gang members who were known to drive without headlights; if a motorist flashed them to turn their lights on, said alleged gang members were known to follow the motorist and shoot at their vehicle. I don't know if that was an urban legend or not, but still, I'm somewhat stunned at the extent of gang activity in Ocean County...

I remember that...I know that was supposedly big in Lakewood Twp (also in Ocean County). When I worked for the Freehold Boro Police Department in Monmouth County, they implemented the VGTF...Violent Gang Task Force...thats how bad the gangs were in that town! Amazing, the town is only 2 square miles...bloods, crypts, mexican mafia, etc.

Pretty Scary

A quiet morning two weeks ago, at about 4am.

"Headquarters start an ambulance, we have a major accident! Someone just totaled 3 of our patrol cars."

Evidently three cars were already on another incident, when someone driving down the street totalled all three of them.

No major injuries, but it was comical listening to them try to find rides back to the station and enough wreckers for the 4 cars.

Ah, some days you just wish you were recording everything. :)

Lots of activity (watching houses, tailing cars, C.I.'s etc.) on the Ocean County Prosecuters office Narcotic Strikeforce tonight....seems as if they are in Lakewood. I've heard they are really stirring things up after the recent shootings.

This certainly doesnt qualify for a major incident, but it is good listening. The Coast Guard Helicopters are currently conducting training rescue missions in the barnegat bay on 237.9000 AM

Closer to home... decent size job in Wall Twsp today - they had fire nearly throughout a motel. I believe all of Wall's companies were there and two engines from Point Pleasant Beach as a FAST team.

Yes, I heard that right from the initial dispatch. The Village Motel on Rt. 35, for anyone familiar with the area, across the street from the Princess Maria Diner. It's mostly welfare and transients that stay there. One room was destroyed, at least one other heavily damaged. First cop on scene reported heavy fire. I believe the cops had one in custody, but I'm not 100% sure, so it sounds like it may not have been accidental.

Hi guys,

"...shots fired by gang members hanging out in front of the Krausers convenience store at the intersection of Route 37 and Coolidge Ave."

I'm sure glad I don't live in Gilford Park any more, that was a nice quiet store only 5 years ago.

"Lots of activity (watching houses, tailing cars, C.I.'s etc.) on the Ocean County Prosecuters office Narcotic Strikeforce tonight....seems as if they are in Lakewood. I've heard they are really stirring things up after the recent shootings."

Uh uh, they're ALWAYS in Lakewood, mostly at the bottom of 4th St. by the RR tracks where the dope dealers hang out. BTW, last month one said "We're not in radio contact with Lakewood, they have scanners." (;->) WADDA DOPE! They'd be better off with Lakewood's radios or county interop, they can go "secure".

Ah, so that's the Wall fire that Point Beach responded to. That's typical with Special Response clients, Social Services doesn't deal with the cream of society. A few days before one of the rooming houses they're placed in here on Forman Ave. burnt down and we have at least one motel fire each year. It gets worse, there's one motel here that has dozens of minor incidents per year, mostly cooking fires. That's not the only place in the area, somebody always passes out drunk while cooking dinner. They're walking fire hazards and totally mindless.

"It's mostly welfare and transients that stay there."

Don't include transients with Special Response clients, motels were made for transients AKA travelers.

That was actually the detectives on Detective 1. I remember them talking about switching to one of Lakewood's channels but they didn't because "they might have scanners". Most of the users of the 500 MHz County TRS think that it's impossible to monitor the system with a scanner.

There are currently SWATT/ERT ops on Middlesex County's 02-031 (analog). This pretty much clinches my suspicion that the 02-020 fleet is the Prosecutor, where almost all of the comms have been Aegis/Provoice digital.

I can't be sure this is real as opposed to a drill, but there has been no mention of a drill in the time I've been listening and it's almost more valuable as confirmation of the fleet regardless.

No information on location or nature. Sounds like they're both observing a barricaded suspect and clearing other portions of the building(s), with a negotiator in contact.

Hi again,

"How about the family of 3 that were victims of a hit & run in Roselle/Linden ?"

Unless you live in Roselle it's unlikely you'll hear that low profile repeater. Linden was not directly involved, it's not thier jurisdiction although they may have provided mutual aid to some extent. The apartments are just west of the entrance of Warenaco (spelling?) Park at the head of Park Avenue across from the diner. Linden is on the diner side, Roselle on the park side of St. Georges Avenue.

Still all you'd hear is a response, the PD isn't a news service so once on the scene there is little radio chatter. Oh, is 707 a police car or an aircraft? When Gene Hergert drove 701 it was an aircraft! (;->)

No wonder year-round residents can't wait for Summer to be over. They can then take their communities back (except for the towns with the year-round gang hoodlums). Damned shame. I used to love going "down the shore" as a kid and have many a fond memory. Glad to see that the behavior is not being tolerated by the good guys and a weekend or two of object lessons may help "Woodsy Spread The Word". I hope so!

Seaside Heights is extremely busy tonight. I'm hearing OCSD and NJSP units on Seaside Heights Police-6 (460.3500 MHz, DPL 116). If you're within listening range of Seaside Heights Police, it's the thing to listen to.
