Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am trying to figure out how to hook up a maratrac siren kit HLN1318A. I have a VHF High Maratrac with a HCN1089A (A7) control head, HLN1393A DEK, and all their respective cables. I cannot find any documentation on how to properly connect everything however.

The cable that connects the DEK to the radio control head (possibly HKN4337A) has a yellow and a red wire that I have no idea what to do with. Also, there is a black wire paired with a black/blue wire that I have no idea what to do with.

The cable that connects the siren box with the DEK (possibly HKN4338A) has an orange wire and green wire that I'm unsure of. There is also a pair of wires that are black/orange and black/green extending about 4 inches out from the radio control head connector that are labled "connect to spkr only" and I'm wondering how I will get audio to the speaker inside my vehicle if I connect the speaker to this.

Also on this cable, there are two black wires that look exactly like a 110 VAC power cord that I'm assuming go to the siren speaker.

Then you need to program the radio and the head to recognize the DEK and the Siren pkg.

MaraTrac Siren w/o radio

I replaced a MaraTrac radio and quickly discovered that the siren (HLN1318A) needs to be connected to the control head in order to operate.

Is anyone aware of an override in which the siren will operate independently of the radio?

There is an orange and a green wire leaving the siren control head. The green is connected to a 12v source that becomes active with the key on. The orange is balled up under the dash, having never been connected to anything. The siren amp behind the seat remains in tact and has a constant 12v supply from the battery.

Could it be as simple as connecting the orange wire to power?

This is an old thread but if anyone is interested, there is a seller on eBay that has the Motorola MaraTrac Siren/Public Address manual (68P80102W29-A) for sale. One left. I have one and it shows all the cable connections ... what goes where and what they're used for.
