How strong is Meca1 system in range? How far out can I be to pick it up. I travel down to Howard County alot. Would I pick up Meca1 when I'm down in Kokomo?

Not a chance. You would do well to pick up MECA from the contiguous counties and Howard county is 3 counties away.

I can't pick up MECA from Noblesville, dead in the middle of Hamilton County. So no, I would say Kokomo will not happen.

Meca is nothing like Safe-t. Safe-t is "Statewide" and MECA only covers Metro Indianapolis/Marion County.If the OP wants to hear MECA from outside the Metro Indianapolis/Marion Conty area the OP can hear MECA on a live feed over tne internet.Go to the live audio tab, look for MECA Police, Fire, and EMS.There you will find (2) live audio feeds.Best Requards,Tim DeLong W9NES GMRS USER KAF3207 *Monitoring all of Metro Indianapolis/Marion County and all of Central Indiana*

Hmm... I am sitting here in Greenfield with a back of set antenna picking up MECA quite well. :lol:

Generally it dies around Plainfield for me, although once I heard it at the Greencastle exit on I70........

For some odd reason some areas of Greenfield and even far into Henry County you can hear MECA just as well as if you were in Indy. I was at a football game one night just of 70 a couple miles and a good 45 miles from Indy and hearing MECA perfectly there too with a 396 inside my coat. It's almost as if there is tunnel out that way that follows 70.
I also found great reception inside the Hancock Co. Library on MECA.
