Chris, keep in mind that the way you hook the mast to the clothes line pole will effect how it works as a ground. If you screw or bolt it, should be fine if you use clamps and the post is painted it may make it non conductive or not conduct as well. And may require a ground strap of sorts from the mast to the Post. With the setup you have described you would defiantly want an possible strike to follow the easiest path to the ground and hopefully it would stop there and not make it into the structure or your radios. You guys rock, and just saved me a lot of headache.

I'm planning to bolt the mast to the pole, but even still I'll probably use some copper wire between them anyhow just for extra measure.

Radio Shack doesn't sell those mast poles that have tapered ends anymore? They use to carry 10 and 20 ft. lengths and were pretty cheap.

We don't have Radio Shacks in Canada anymore... they were all bought out by Circuit City and their selection of radio/scanner equipment is pathetic at best.
