Maycom rebranded Daycom

I have a Daycom Ar-108 which appears to be a rebranded Maycom. It seems to work OK except when I try to recharge the batteries with an external power supply. Then it just begins to smell like burning!

Does anyone have one of these scanners and can they recharge the batteries?
