• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm sure many are aware of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, in which competitors are tasked with writing the most poorly written opening to a fictional literary piece. This reminds me of the engineers version of a contest. The scariest part is that it seem this guy actually believes the nonsense he's selling.

Fortunately, the foil lining inside my hat protects me from evil rays that have affected him but I'm still working on a defense against the vapor trails......

I've seen even otherwise pretty intelligent people get brainwashed into believing things that are just absurd to those not (yet) indoctrinated. I think it has to do with continuous bombardment with so many statements that are false that the brain runs out of stack space and time and just starts to accept some of the seemingly simpler stuff that the other stuff is based on. If they can get you to believe 1 = 3, all sorts of things can be proven.

I get it. Given the prevalence and bombardment with social media feeds combined with reliance on soundbites rather than fully developed news what would one expect? Add in a healthy portion of confirmation bias and voila a whackjob is born.

My truck is less than 20 years old and doesn't have TPM.
Manufacturers are going away from tire pressure sensors in the wheels due to the lithium batteries losing charge after about 7 or 8 years. The sensors are still functional but since the battery is not replaceable it gets tossed. People don’t like spending ~$125.00 per wheel because the tire has to be dismounted and rebalanced, I have replaced sensors by only breaking one bead and fishing it out. That saves the customer the cost of a rebalance.
When tire pressure monitoring was first introduced, the computer looked at the ABS wheel speed sensors. A low tire rotates at a slightly different speed than a fully inflated tire. The newer speed sensors can detect a low tire easier than the old sensors.

A lot of people ignore the warning light. They think the #*@$ sensors are causing the tires to lose air.

I have seen electrical tape over the LED. Custom wheels sometimes don’t have room for a sensor.

For those that still check their tire pressures with a gauge and don’t give a hoot what the sensors report, you can build a simple device from PVC pipe, a couple caps and a valve.

I agree to a point.... when overwhelmed with information, trying to make sense of everything can cause issues... Like in "Star Trek Voyager - Conspiracy". Science Fiction but it is a concept to consider.

Thanks

Sadly the 'politics' forum is gone.

The funny thing to me, is it used to be considered a mild insult if a person were accussed of "Using facts like a drunk uses a street light, for support rather than illumination."

I'm willing to bet that most people don't even know what that means now (not here though).

Thanks

Sorry I can't comprehend what you are getting at with this. My excuses are I'm old and have been married to a blond for 15.5 years so that has sapped my mental capacity...

I'm assuming the speed only sensors just indicate a low pressure warning, or can they tell how much air was lost?
My Equinox showed the left front was 27 pounds this week but it was in the low 20s for the overnight low. I don't know how much temperature affects pressure by psi per degree but remember from my winter morning paper route days in high school the bike tires had a flat spot until I rode a few blocks.

And of course, newer vehicles dont give a hoot about this. My 2019 Pacifica has diversity regarding wheel position and pressure monitoring. Meaning, the display on the dash will tell you the pressure of the tire at a specific location. When you change the position of the wheel, the system will determine the pressure at the location, you dont have to update or change it.

My work truck got a nail in passenger rear. After it was fixed and inflated, I put it in the spare location until I had time to swap spare and normal. Even though the tire was up to pressure, the system showed no pressure where the spare was spinning.

Otherwise, that was a classic way to have a set of race or snow wheels/tires and be unannoyed by silly lights.

I mean, the power company is CLEARLY doing itself a favor by wiping 1,000s of customers homes off the map. It really makes a lot of sense, ya know?

Oh and, my 2009 Titan has black electrical tape over the tire light on the dash. Free.99 fix over the $200 to get all the sensors working again.

I wonder if the responses here on Radio Reference (TM) are copyrighted or not. Someone like Jeff Dunham could rename his "Old Man" dummy to "Old Ham". He could glean his material from here endlessly!;)

Tire sensors are about as useful as a windshield wiper wrench.

Well what do you know. My local utility stoped by yesterday as the 'smart meter' on my gas supply had failed. ( insert gas jokes here )
I hear they can now explode my home remotely. Still, that will definitely reduce my utility bill each month, so there is that.

I wonder what the financial hit will be to the utility companies in LA with the massive loss of monthly income. I know their cost to buy gas and power is down for lack of demand but they still have other bills to pay. I wonder if every electric and gas meter needs to be replaced.
