I don't have any social media accounts. I even went so far as to delete my very old YouTube account of which I created long before Google bought YouTube from the original Devs back when YouTube first hit the Internet and Google turned it all to hell.
When I was on Facebook many years ago I found it to be a source of drama, hearsay and low IQ blather. Besides that no one, not even my friends and family, really gave a damn about what I had posted. But if I uploaded an image of the damn cat along came 7 thumbs up. Really?!
The company is called Meta for a reason, and there's a load of it out there. I reckon companies and/or data brokers know more about you than the "evil NSA" everyone likes to complain about. Though, I do believe the NSA should operate internationally only like the CIA (well, supposed too)...
There's a 1980s song by The Timex Social Club called Rumors. It reminds me of social media.
On the subject of smart meters, I actually had no idea they had internal batteries, and I'm willing to bet many others didn't either. Thus an idiot has figured this out and decided to capitalize on people's physiology whilst California burns. Like a lot of the other crap, it's meant to try and spread FUD (Fear, uncertainty, and doubt). How many times did you read on social media this actor or singer died only to find out it was false? I can't tell you how many times I have to explain to my elderly parents this and that is not true and don't ever trust what you read on social media. Sensationalist journalism has been elevated to the next level, let me tell you. Where yesteryear featured pictures of "batboy," today you get full on video and commentary! Where's Andy Rooney when we need him? I can just hear is commentary now about social media.
PT Barnum is often misquoted in saying 'there's a sucker born every minute.' Even though the quote is not his, it seems to stand true for a vast majority of the carbon-based bipedal chimps that vote and form the government we have today. And it's not just social media that lives in their minds either, it's ALL of the media! Print, Internet, TV and radio. It's company versus company, corporation versus corporation, stock padding abound and they ALL live in your head. In addition to ousting social media out of my life, I too in large part got rid of most corporate media consumption and only chose to watch certain creators on YouTube, Rumble or Odysee.
Since man gathered around the camp fire social media has always been a thing... The Shaman (teachers) of our society have done a great disservice by not teaching how to think but what to think. And most of all, common sense is out the proverbial window. So I blame the parents, I blame the public education system, and I most certainly blame the media in all its facets like movies, TV shows and music.
In summary, the issue is a multifaceted one, predicated on the fact that man is a wolf to man. But one thing's for certain; It's not social media, it's social delusion coupled by social acceptance.
I yield back the balance of my time and leave you with this: Why continue to pay the carney, the showman in Ad revenue?
