Some places I can fine with Close Call and other I can't. Do they have other systems that we can't pick up?

I have a Uniden 396xt.

Hilarious. To each their own. I guess you would pick some interesting things up.

Actually you'd be surprised. In South Carolina I lived just down the road [aprox 1/4mile] from a Micky D's and used to monitor them at times [usually weekend nights] and heard 2 of them talking about an armed robery going on in the front part of the place. I called PD and advised them of what I heard and they had the officers there post haste. The guy got away, but it surprised the manager that someone had heard his crew talking about it and was nice enough to call the police.

Indeed!

I'm pretty sure that some use spread spectrum or frequency hopping techniques.

About 15 years ago a McD's in Dallas was having problems with someone interfering with their analog VHF ordering system, they would make rude and crude remarks to the employees. They filed a complaint with the Dallas FCC office and they actually went out and set on the parking lot and determined who was interfering, called the cops and they busted the guy. Turned he was a news stringer for a local tee vee station, he had several radios in his van including his modified 2M ham rig. The cops impounded his van and the FCC confiscated all the radios.

Here's a link to the actual 3M hardware. Here's what the website says:

"Spread spectrum technology can significantly reduce interference to maintain high quality communication"

Fast food - my strategy

I search 457-458 and 469-470 which finds a lot of the fast food restaurants. Others may be still using VHF, have migrated to 900 MHz or using the 1.9 GHz radios someone mentioned earlier. For 900 MHz you have to be REALLY close to hear them.

The inputs to 469 are in the 464 range and 457 the inputs are in the 468s.
