• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

HI,
Anyone get the MD-380 experimental firmware to work on their radio? Downloaded it and tried to write it to radio, but does not seem to work .Looks like it is writing to radio. When you check code plug version it still shows firmware version D002.034.
Thanks,
Bill

Last time I checked the MD380 was not an amateur radio and because your post mentions nothing about amateur radio, it was moved here.

If you wish to discuss it further, please email me.

Need help,

I'm very interested in this discussion. I can't seem to find where it was moved to?

I would also like to say, Commercial, Professional Radio and Personal Radio > Budget and Entry Level Transceivers >

Describes the MD-380 in my mind. It's a cheap and basic commercial radio that can be applied to ham / GMRS / ect. I too an having a problem with the latest firmware for the radio, and wanted some help. Please let me know where to go from here. I am not exactly an expert on this site.

Thank You,

Jim Boyle:)

The firmware thread is located in the Budget and Entry Level Transceivers forum. There's also a redirect (expiring) in the Amateur Radio forum linking to the thread.

Folks, here's the reasoning behind what we're doing:

If you wish to discuss the MD380 (or any other commercial radio) and it's operation on the amateur bands, please use the Digital Voice for Amateur Radio forum. Asking for amateur codeplugs or how to program the User Activated Talkgroups would be two examples.

If you're asking a question not related to amateur radio use, than the Budget and Entry Level forum is the place.

Since the "digital carrier squelch" firmware mod is probably more appealing to people trying to listen to commercial users, the thread has been moved here.

There's always a few ways to view something but emailing a moderator to question his knowledge of amateur radio and to tell him that we all could "loose" if we don't adapt all commercial radios to amateur use really doesn't help your viewpoint. I'm also not convinced that moving one post will affect public service in a way that my well being will be affected.

Bottom line, the MD380 is not an amateur radio. Neither are all the other commercial radios being deployed on the amateur bands.

Thanks for your time.
