I've listened to Air Evac 43 here in Campbellsville. They talk to EMS on the local EMS frequency and to their base on a different operations frequency.

The database lists 158.39750 as Air Evac Operations but, I can't program that exact frequency into the Pro-95. It defaults to 158.40000.

It's already in the Taylor County database as 158.39750.

I'm able to hear them on 158.3925, 158.4 and 158.4075 here and was trying to find out which was the proper frequency when I ran across the posting in the RR database. I can't program 158.3975 into the Pro-95, it goes to 158.4 if manually programmed or if programmed with Win95.

I tried looking up their frequencies on the FCC site but Campbellsville is not listed amoung their frequencies yet. 158.3925 is listed as licensed to them as a base/mobile frequency in another location though. 158.4 is also listed in another location as MOI type for this company,

Air Evac in Campbellsville is now using 153.380 with a DPL of 051
They have been licensed for this frequency for a few weeks but they have just started using it.

PHI

I had a chance to speak with the Comm. Director at an industry meeting.
They are currently dispatching both of the Western Ky aircraft from the EMS communications centers in the respective counties, ie:Hopkins Co. and Mercy Regional frequencies for now. They are exploring several communications options, I suspect that since they now have the old KAT program over in the central and eastern regions, they will explore combining the comm's.

Thanks for all the responses everyone.

Union and Henderson Counties are usually contacted by the inbound helicopter usually on HERN 155.340, as far as I can tell.

Usually if it is an "on the scene" flight, they will contact them on the requesting agencies frequency, they usually get this from the person requesting the inbound chopper.

I can not vouch for Daviess county as I am too far away. Most medical helicopters operate this way as they have a “WOLFSBURG “ A brand of radio equipment used extensively in EMS aircraft. The Wolfsburg radios are operator programmable to come up on any standard land mobile frequency or aircraft frequency.

Thanks I travel frequently to Daviess thats I asked. as far as henderson co goes I work there and hope to pick up union co from there. But if they are the same its all good. I have the KHERN freq programmed into the scanner since it doubles as IHERN as well.

While searching for LIFEGUARD AEROMEDICAL I stumbled upon this url.... it lists all Medevac choppers in the nation.... it is nice info:

http://www.adamsairmed.org/states/ADAMS Atlas Appendix.pdf

(My interest in LIFEGUARD came about after hearing choppers with that cal on approach to UK's pad.... wondering if that might be the old KATS birds from east KY, renamed since PHI took them over....)

Lifeguard is the FAA approved call for any medical aircraft with a Pt. onboard. Most aircraft use their tail numbers on the outbound leg and lifeguard and the number portion of their tail on the inbound leg when talking to tower or ATC. Most controllers in non congested airspace will help out aircraft calling lifeguard.

For example "N911BE is off Erlanger on a 185 heading" going to the scene.
And "Lifeguard 911BE on a heading of 005 inbound to Erlanger" with a Pt.

But some programs like ours have been granted the use of our call sign on all communications on flights, so we are just LifeForce1 and LifeForce2 on the ATC radio.

HI Mark:
The chopper was "LIFEGUARD 2" on the University of Kentucky Aeromed freq as they approached the pad at the hospital... since UK has high traffic volume their dispatcher also acts as a landing coordinater for the many choppers on and off their pad... and they use their company ID's there to keep the confusion to a minimum.

If I had LIFEGUARD 2's tail number that would end the mystery... but I was too far away to get there for the touchdown.... I seldom monitor the airband unless I am at the airport.
