I would like to know where to buy scanners. At local stores with good service & good prices. In the downriver area. I have 2 uniden handhelds bc100xlt,bc200xlt. I want to research on bcd396t or bcd996t in the near funter. Any advice would be helpful Thank you!. Dan

well radio shack now carries the uniden line of scanners and try palco electronic on eureka rd east of i75

I monitor Law Enforcement and DNR communications on the Michigan MPSCS. I also monitor and check into nets on the 2m ham bands, and plan on getting into 70cm sometime within the year.

For equipment, I have a Uniden BCD996T,and a Uniden BC80XLT (never used anymore). For ham comm I use a Yaesu FT-1802M (currently set up for base with a Samlex 1223 switching power supply) and a Yaesu VX-170. Standard stock antennas are used with both scanners, however I do use a Radio Shack mobile mag mount scanner antenna for the BCD996T. I use a homebuilt j-pole antenna tuned to 146MHz for the FT-1802M, and have a CSB-790A Comet antenna with a K400S mobile lip mount (came with a SMA to PL-259 adaptor) for use with either the FT-1802 or the VX-170.

I'm in the Pinckney area and I enjoy monitoring the following:

1. MPSCS (Various, Local LE & Fire, MSP)
2. Washtenaw County - Ann Arbor / County Units
3. Military / Aircraft
4. Skywarn (Weather permitting)

I've had a scanner at my side since i was probably 13 or so (thanks Dad!) and have had one ever since. I recently purchased a PSR-500 and am enjoying the benefits of listening to digitally trunked systems.
