1410L- COSMIC fighter on ZNY 307.8 Dixie low advising NY he's doing practice intercepts. Then heard him on 364.2 hailing the TOI (as if on 121.5). Now over to ZNY290.2 requesting 260-270 block. Must be right over me, solid signal. Also coming up on 260.9
Also hearing some Warren Grove range activity but weak 283.1
COSMICs switched to 323.3 Millville
Just a thought.....maybe COSMICs were doing a dry run for when POTUS is at Bedminster. Fighter stated "practice scrambles/intercepts".

Since this thread seems to cover anything east of the Mississippi and sometimes beyond that, I've moved it to the Military Aircraft Spotting forum.

I've left a 1 month redirect in the Maryland forum so everyone can get used to the change.
The term Spotting usually refers to the visual seeing of an aircraft. While spotters use radios - there is a big difference between spotting and monitoring -- whether commercial, business or military aircraft.

Perhaps a slight revision to the forum title would make it more general.

MAINE92 overhead, wasn’t watching ADSB but heard the distinct roar of fighters up there. With location of sun and sporadic clouds I couldn’t get a visual but very noisy. Not near my scanner but some of you will probably get A/A.

Departed KBTV, so must have F-35s in tow. That would check out with how loud the chicks were.

MAINE-92 on ZDC UHF reports working MARSA with the COSMIC's of A/C came almost right overhead here said was enroute waypoints
MURPH > GVE GVE : GORDONSVILLE navaid | OpenNav
I can see that is where he turned around and went back towards Maine and they were doing TOI intercept warning practice..
"This is defense Fighter on your right wing and you have been intercepted etc."

Mark thanks for the clarification. Those COSMICs were certainly making a lot of noise up there as they came over, and that Burlington departure for the tanker had me thinking VT guard F-35s. Definitely an interesting mission, not something I recall seeing before. Usually those Alert birds have plenty of gas for whatever their tasking is with the external wing tanks, but seems they needed some extra help today. Over the past few weeks I've noticed most of the AC jets are launching without any external tanks.

I did consider it but the Forum description seemed to sum it up nicely:

Mark,

I knew something was different as this C130 originally took off as CGR2010 (Rescue callsign). I hope this Coastie is found.

Couple Maryland A-10 Ravens over in A/C area A/A 266.6000
Also a couple of Del ANG C-130's headed for A/C area A/A on their CP 343.000.
Years ago 343.000 also was Willow Grove NAS A-10 CP freq.. I remember one time their A-10's raised
Del ANG CP of same.. "Sorry we will wait till we get farther North" :)

RAVEN-01 flight back inbound with Martin State tower 121.300..They seem to like that VHF freq better

They haven't used the UHF tower freq (254.425) for ages. Not sure why. Maybe MTN UHF xmitter out of service?
