Neither are capable of milair out of the box. I don't know of a fix for the 2051, but Win96 can open up the freqs for the PRO-2096. Problem is, neither scanner is set up for milair, so the sensitivity is going to be all over the place. Some folks find the 2096 works OK on milair, others find it's deaf as a post; and that's not an indication of a defective unit.

That being said, the 138-144 mhz band, where many air national guard units can be found, should be quite useable. I'm fairly sure you can change the mode to AM on the 2096 (that's the common mode here), but not sure about the 2051. 73s Mike

96 for Milair

I bash my 96 for being deaf in VHF PS and Air. Yesterday I got the RS antenna that is not the 800 only and she hears much better. For sure 138.2 AM just a few minutes ago. Still pales to my 2045 but some is better than none. The next time I hear 350.350 on my base set up I'll try to go outside and see if this duck will do it on the 96.

VHF on the 96 does see problematic. I've got a few programmed in and they are mostly 2M
Ham Weather. (No problem on these but this is Central TX so some of these boys may be running several KW in my near area...)

Generally the 96 is near-deaf-as-a-post here on standard Air Band. I think it's a matter of XMIT Power- this is TX...

Upper mil air

Ok got it 350.350 AM right now real time here in Indianapolis.
Both on my 2045 LMR400'd discone at 35' and my win 96 modded 96 with the NOT for 800 only RS rubber antenna. I was impressed as I actually got it at the computer before I went outside. Obviously not as loud as the 2045 but it was there. Very good copy IMO, outside. Audio was better than I expected.
Magic, Comet and gang w/hostiles FL18-30 also on 138.3 calling the moves.
Enjoy!!
