To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

You can have up to 8 tone pairs to activate on a single channel. Depending on what model you have, you can program the ABCD switch to change channels (if a two channel model) silient mode, open mode.
At the moment, the pager I use has two channels, digital memory recording, and I have it setup to
decode two different tone sets.

MInitor V tones

I just fired up my Minitor PPS programming software and loaded my pager configuration
file. The previous reply was correct saying there were 12 tone out settings - however this is what I found:

Model A03KMS9239BC (w stored voice)
151-158.9975 Mhz
2 channels
8 sets of A/B (sometimes called 1+1 paging)
4 single tone group pages
So in a way, you could say it has 12 different tone outs per channel.

I had an M2 and when your talking about driving you insane lol... I kept that thing on F1 and beep beep beep and tones play out, I usually switch it to the Alert only option but i get bored to wait for a certain station to be called, then F2 which was a county patch for Interops/Mutual Aids, interesting things happen, now I just got my portables, more to listen too.... but i sure do miss having my minitor 2

Wa6 is correct, you can have 8 A/B two-tone pages and 4 group call single pages. If you want to get alerts for different departments on the same channel, you could as long as you get their tones.

I just asked this on in the Md section but found this thread so I'll copy/paste to here too....

Here's a semi-dumb question as far as the Minitor V programming goes that I haven't seen answered anywhere here or on batboard. I want to get out the handy programming kit & add in our EMS tone & 1 or 2 of our mutual aid departments that we run boxes with to get a heads up on when we're going somewhere (or will be). My department's tones I have exact & trip fine but for the mutual aid departments I have as a best guess from analyzing on Audacity. What's the leeway plus or minus in Hz for accuracy before the V isn't going to recognize the tones and alert when they're sent? These aren't the exact #'s but for example Audacity pegs a GC at say 951 or 955 but in actuality it's 953.7 or say a 2 tone Audacity will show as 1083 / 796 when in actuality it would really be 1084.0 / 794.3 ? Anybody have any thoughts?

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! I have our tones & Audacity seems to be pretty good at getting close enough to work most times. Since it won't cause any missed calls when those tones go off and the pager doesn't activate it'll just give me an excuse to go back in and do some more work. Once I get them working I'll be going back in to adjust the alerts & filter those tones & ours with the duty settings anyway....
And to clarify the V is an eBay pickup. I still have a II and a Checkmate issued through the departments I'm with so this is just a pickup on my own to filter everything into 1 pager. I love the II like everyone but for all the complaints on the III & IV's that Checkmate is beyond useless. LOL

Thanks again!

Most pagers accept a variance of plus or minus 1.8 hz.

Slightly larger deviance than that. They will alert with a +/- of up to 7 hz, but to be safe I wouldn't be off by more than +/- 5hz.

I have tested this.

1 more dumb question.

1 last really dumb question on the 5. I admit to it, I am & always have been nothing but a Mac guy. The home computer is a Mac so to me anything Windows related might as well be in German or Portuguese for as much as I understand it but I still want to do my own programming instead of sending the pager out. I'm looking at laptops anyway for other reasons that will make me have to choose a Windows one over a Mac so would I be able to do this programming on the laptop if I go with the Windows one? Any issues that would prevent me from doing that or would it be OK? Again I use a Gateway at work but other than that all I've ever used is the Mac so all the talk of C Drives, G Drives, 7's & XP's goes WAY over my head, so please excuse the ignorance...
